Salisbury Prayer Breakfast to Feature National Leader on Faith and Family Issues

The 13th annual Salisbury Area National Day of Prayer Breakfast will feature Jedd Medefind, a nationally-known influencer on faith and family matters, said event organizers. It will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Jedd Medefind currently serves as President of the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO), which unites over 290 organizations in joint initiatives to better the lives of vulnerable children and families. Before that, he led the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives to coordinate national policy on nonprofits and their work. He has worked in more than 40 countries on faith issues, has authored numerous books and articles, and has been a sought-after expert in national news media.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Jedd Medefind’s caliber and prominence at the Salisbury Prayer Breakfast,” said organizing committee chairman Bonnie Luna. “Jedd is deeply versed on issues of spiritual formation, how technology influences families and children, and topics that are truly relevant to our world today. He brings great discernment into how we can develop deeper relationships and lead our community in better ways.”

The Salisbury breakfast, held on the same day as the annual National Day of Prayer, is organized by a committee of area community leaders. Luna said the group revived the tradition of a regional prayer breakfast on the Lower Shore. “This is an ecumenical gathering to promote fellowship and at the same time share valuable insights,” she said. “We are blessed to have Jedd Medefind bring his timely message to our region.”

The breakfast program begins at 7:00 a.m. Prior to that time, from 6:15 to 6:55 a.m., attendees are invited to join local pastors in corporate prayer for the city, region and country. A special area will be set aside for this preliminary event.

The Salisbury event is timed to coincide with the 74th annual National Day of Prayer, whose theme this year is “Pour out to the God of Hope and be filled,” based on the text of Romans 15:13. Millions of others across the nation will be gathering to pray at thousands of National Day of Prayer events.

Tickets for the prayer breakfast are $20, available in Salisbury at The Country House or by mail. Make checks payable to Salisbury Area Prayer Breakfast Committee, P.O. Box 521, Salisbury, MD 21803. For information, call Ted Evans at 410-430-4189.

Magi Concert Plays to Full House to Benefit Region’s Impoverished

SALISBURY, MD – Some 1,000 area residents attended the Magi Fund’s annual Christmas concert at Emmanuel Church on Beaglin Park Drive in Salisbury on Saturday, November 16, raising a total of over $60,000 for the needy of the Lower Shore.

“People came from all over Maryland, Delaware and Virginia to see this Christmas show,” said Magi Fund Chairman Bonnie Luna. “We were amazed at the turnout. And the audience kept telling us it was spectacular.”

The concert featured the nearly 150 voices of the famous National Christian Choir, which has toured the U.S. and abroad, and the Salisbury Children’s Choir, composed of 48 regional youngsters aged 6 to 18. The two groups performed individually, then joined in a moving candlelight benediction that included audience participation.

The annual event is an artistic vehicle to raise funds for the Joseph House Center and the Christian Shelter. These two charities help the region’s struggling or homeless families. All Magi Fund proceeds are split 50-50 between the two charities, with nothing taken out for overhead.

Many audience members also brought nonperishable food donations to replenish food pantries at the Joseph House and Christian Shelter. The items were sorted and loaded into vans by Scouts from St. Francis Church’s Troop 185. Attendees were also greeted as they entered and exited the event by bell ringers for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, which supports that ministry’s programs for those in need. The kettles collected over $1,800.

In 31 years of existence, the Magi Fund has raised $3 million for Joseph House Center and Christian Shelter operations. It has also set up an endowment fund at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) to benefit the two charities in perpetuity.

Donors wanting to contribute to the Magi Fund will have the chance to maximize their gifts from November 25 through December 3 via the “Shore Gives More Giving Tuesday” campaign. During that time, a Henson Foundation – CFES Challenge will give an additional $1 for every $2 donated through a dedicated website (www.ShoreGivesMore.org/magifund). All processing fees are waived, so 100 percent of donations will go to the Magi Fund to distribute to the two charities.
