Obituary
Weldon Louis Meadows, 90, of Sumter, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born on January 26, 1931, in Marshall, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Madie and Bigelow Meadows. He served from 1948 to 1968 in the U.S. Air Force, serving three years in Japan and one tour of duty in Thailand, retiring from Shaw Air Force Base as Master Sergeant in 1968. He spent twenty-six years in the banking industry, retiring as Vice President in 1994 from Wells Fargo Sumter.
He was an active member in the Sumter First Church of the Nazarene, an active member and Past Commander (1996) of American Legion Post 15 in Sumter, an active member of the Forty and Eight, and worked tirelessly for the March of Dimes, the Easter Seals, The Salvation Army, the Sumter Optimist Club and the Sumter County Fair.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Harrah Meadows, his sister Ruth Freeman, and brothers James Meadows, Wayne Meadows and Jim Meadows.
Loved survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Amick James of Mt. Pleasant, Mary L. Meadows of Sumter, and Dody M. Yarborough of Columbia; four grandchildren, Marie Corrao of Canton, Georgia (Scott), Dr. Elizabeth Kirlis of Mt. Pleasant (Karey), William H. Yarborough, Esq. of Columbia (Liz), and Benjamin L. Yarborough of Columbia; seven great grandchildren, Mary Grace Corrao, Lily Marie Corrao, Sarah Scott Corrao, Jack Corrao, Chloe Elizabeth Kirlis, Lucy Rose Kirlis, and William Quinn Kirlis; and nieces and nephews, Diane Chandler, Loretta Freeman, Vono Freeman, Don Freeman, Cliff Meadows, Bronnie Meadows, Rod Meadows, Barbara Hake, and Donald Meadows.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 Patriot Parkway, Sumter officiated by the Rev. Greg Pressley. Entombment will follow with full military honors in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene.
