Fulton Heights Neighborhood Association Salisbury, NC
Bringing together our neighbors and keeping them connected with news and events surrounding our historic 'hood!!

The Fulton Heights District in Salisbury is an intact representation of a middle and upper-middle class residential neighborhood that developed in the early twentieth century. It is among several suburbs of North Carolina towns that emerged as an outgrowth of the City Beautiful Movement. The neighborhood is laid out in grid-patterned streets along which houses rendered in nationally-popular styles

were regularly spaced within well-landscaped yards. Fulton Heights is among several neighborhoods of the period in the state that boasted amenities such as a streetcar system and large park area within its boundaries. The developers of the neighborhood formed the Southern Development Company and sponsored the extension of the city's existing streetcar tracks to the neighborhood in 1904. Several streetcar suburbs emerged around the turn of the century in North Carolina's larger cities, but the streetcar line that serviced Fulton Heights was distinguished in that it provided direct transportation for workers commuting to the nearby Southern Railway Spencer Shops. Though the park and the streetcar tracks have been replaced by a landscaped median, the neighborhood still conveys a strong sense of its origins as an early twentieth century residential suburb, with its varietal collection of well-maintained housing, wide avenues and generous landscaping. Various architectural styles are represented in the district including Colonial Revival, Craftsman, Tudor Revival and World War II-era Minimal Traditional along with several examples of earlier styles including Queen Anne and late Victorian-era cottages.

Residential recycling service is transitioning to a city-operated program starting Wednesday, July 1, and we’re updating carts starting next Monday, May 11 through the end of June. If your blue cart has a Republic Services logo, place it at the curb for three consecutive days during your regular collection week so Quality Cart Solutions Inc. crews can add City decals to it. If your collection day is Friday, include the weekend as part of your three-day window.
If your cart has not been updated with the new City decal stickers after three days, bring it in and repeat the process during your next recycling week. This is one step toward better service and a more Sustainable Salisbury. For more information, please visit: salisburync.gov or call 704-638-5260.

As we transition the residential recycling service to a City-operated program on Wednesday, July 1, the City will begin updating recycling carts now and continue through the end of June. We know residents have questions, so we’ve created a Frequently Asked Questions page at salisburync.gov/recycling.

Here’s what to do now:
During your recycling collection week, if your blue recycling cart has a Republic Services logo, please place it at the curb for three consecutive days so crews with Quality Cart Solutions Inc. can apply new City decal stickers. Residents with a Friday collection day should include the weekend in the three-day window. If your cart is not updated after three days, please bring it in and place it back out during your next recycling week.
