Relay For Life of Salinas is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event. It is a 4-hour community event that celebrates the lives of cancer survivors, remembers those who have lost their lives to cancer, and fights back again a disease that continues to take too much. In order to keep this community a place to educate, encourage & empower others, we will need to follow a few guideli

nes. Examples include links, codes, crowdsourcing, etc. Keep it G! NO rudeness. Be nice or move on. NO advice or comments are contrary to ACS guidelines. NO politics or political talk. NO blocking admins or moderators. NO unwanted PMs (Private Messages)

Have you met Tom?!

Tom's story is one of many across our community. He faced cancer — but he didn't do it alone. Friends, family... of course they were there in his time of need.

But you know who else Tom credits? The American Cancer Society and donors like you. He says that without the research, his treatment options wouldn't have been available.

Thanks to that support, Tom has been in remission for 16 years.

What an achievement.

THE ENERGY OF PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE WAS ELECTRIC.

We felt it last night... Did you?!

No, it wasn't an earthquake. It was pure power driven by the electricity of last night's fundraising launch for the American Cancer Society - Relay For Life of the Salinas Valley — in support of survivors, families, and more. The sea of purple said it all.

We're ambitious with our fundraising, but we have no choice when it comes to cancer — we won't stop the fight. Your donations go directly to support programs, services, and research right here in Salinas and Northern California.

It was an incredible night as fundraisers, supporters, and volunteers joined our co-chairs, Ashley McDonnell and Tom Bennett.

We were also grateful to have Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo, City of Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue, District 4 Council Member Gloria Del Rosa, and Greenfield Council Member Rachel Ortiz and Del Ray Oaks Mayor Scott Donaldson showing their support.

This year's Relay For Life of the Salinas Valley is dedicated to the legacy of Sam Linder (DGDG) — the community leader who first brought Relay to the Salinas Valley. His vision lives on in every step we take.

We even got our media friends out to cover it with KSBW and the Californian covering the event. Thanks for showing interest in our story.

And thank you as well to our sponsors in attendance: Hartnell College Foundation, Raising Cane's, Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce, Salinas Valley Health and Taylor Farms.

Sweet Reba's and La Plaza Bakery also donated treats for the event and we're grateful.

When we think of people in this community, we see the faces of happy, thoughtful, caring people.

But most of all we see in each of you the heroes within.

You join us for Relay because you care... Care for your family, without question. But you also care about your friends and neighbors in this community. You want to give them a fighting chance if they are facing cancer — and support those who are caregivers when they need help too.

These are all healthy choices that are good for you — but are sometimes hard to do. We get it.

But by making these choices, you are reducing your risk of cancer.

REEL — Why I Relay: Tom Bennett

Tom's story is a story of survival... but he also credits the American Cancer Society and vital research, such as the work that helped develop his cancer treatment.

The reality is that we couldn't have done it without donors and supporters in this community.

We celebrate Tom's 16 years in remission... and we are grateful for how much he gives back by volunteering and supporting Relay For Life of the Salinas Valley.

Yesterday, we celebrated another exciting milestone as Paint the Town Purple continues to grow throughout Monterey County!

For the first time, we had the privilege of bringing Paint the Town Purple to the City of Seaside, coming together at City Hall to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and stand united in the fight against cancer. 💜

A heartfelt thank you to the City of Seaside and its leadership for joining this movement and helping us spread hope throughout our communities.

The purple continues to spread across Monterey County—one community at a time! 💜
