Central Coast Young Farmers & Ranchers

Central Coast Young Farmers & Ranchers Our mission: to attract and empower future Farm Bureau leaders and increase the interest in ag!

Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) is an organization of young professionals in agriculture and related fields, committed to professional development, networking and social opportunities. YF&R is a sub-committee organized under the Monterey County Farm Bureau and San Benito County Farm Bureau of California.

---Meetings---
Our Central Coast YF&R committee meets on a regular basis to discuss issues af

fecting agriculture and to develop methods for promoting our county’s agriculture industry. Our monthly meetings are generally held at the Monterey County Farm Bureau office every third Wednesday at 5:30PM.

---Why Join?---
The biggest advantage to participating in the YF&R program is the chance to meet people from all parts of California. This opportunity is made available during State YF&R sponsored events, such as the YF&R Leadership Conference, Legislative Program, Discussion Meet, Outstanding Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award and other regional or county events. The caliber of individuals participating in the program is very high. Everyone reaps the benefits from the varied backgrounds and experience that this group has to offer.

Central Coast YF&R was proud to be represented at the California Farm Bureau YF&R Summer Leaders Meeting in Napa!

From touring Mission Farm, the Culinary Institute of America, and Groth Vineyards & Winery to harvesting 600 pounds of fresh produce and participating in leadership workshops, our members spent the weekend Beckstoffer Vineyards vineyards learning, connecting, and exchanging ideas with chapters from across the state.

We’re excited to see these experiences and ideas brought back to Central Coast YF&R! 💚🍇

Omar was born and raised in Watsonville, CA and attended both Cabrillo College and Hartnell College before transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He completed his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Agricultural and Environmental Plant Sciences and a Master’s of Science in Agriculture with a thesis focus on strawberry plant diseases.

He was introduced to the strawberry industry by being told it was “a strawberry storm
and be careful because you will get caught in the storm.” He works as a Varietal Development Supervisor at Planasa where every day he gets to help growers by advancing improved strawberry cultivars. As Co-Vice Chair of Activities at the Central Coast YFR, Omar looks forward to working with such a great team and learning more to continue helping growers throughout the state.

Omar is currently participating in Class 55 of California Agricultural Leadership.
