Eleven years of growing skills and growing food for our community, and none of it would have been possible without Mike & Kim Costa, longtime Title Sponsors of the Veggie Box & BBQ Fundraiser.

What started as a small idea became something much bigger because of them. Their vision and steady leadership, year after year, helped turn this fundraiser into one of Rancho Cielo's most meaningful community events, one that funds the programs that change young lives, while putting fresh, healthy food on the tables of families across Monterey County.

“It’s about the students,” Mike says. “That’s the main thing—always remembering it’s about the students. Everyone’s on board with why we’re doing this.”
Thank you, Mike & Kim, for believing in this from day one.

🎉 School may have let out for summer last week, but some of our dedicated students stayed on for one more week of learning. All in the name of Driver’s Education. 🚗
Today, 11 Rancho Cielo students passed their written DMV exams and earned their learner’s permits, bringing the total number of Rancho Cielo students who have achieved this milestone to 192 over the past three years.
Their commitment to reaching this important goal, even after the school year ended, is something to celebrate. Bravo! We’re proud of you.
Through RIDE (Rancho Invests in Driving Equity) Car Scholarship, Rancho Cielo also ensures students have the transportation they need to succeed.

“I am hopeful that one day I will be the owner of a construction company and, along with that, help my dad retire from working in the fields, advance his food business and help him reach his dream of owning his own restaurant,” said student speaker Jose Mendoza-Avina (pictured). “If you can take one thing from my story: Things take time, and sometimes things do not go as planned, but don’t give up.“

On June 5, we celebrated Rancho Cielo’s Drummond Culinary Academy Class of 2026, who staffed 75 high-caliber events—nearly 90 counting their Friday Night Dinners—serving guests from across the Monterey community with a professionalism that belied their years.

"They worked long hours with intense focus and commitment, and supported each other with respect and kindness," said DCA General Manager Wanda Straw.

19 students are now heading into paid summer internships—sponsored by the Monterey County Hospitality Association—at some of the Peninsula's most prestigious properties. This is what Rancho Cielo is about. ❤️

Last Friday, 93 Rancho Cielo students graduated, our largest graduating class ever! Nearly 800 family members, friends, dignitaries and community members gathered to celebrate this unforgettable achievement and cheer on the Class of 2026.

The growth has been remarkable. As John Muir Charter Schools CEO RJ Guess shared before diplomas were distributed, “We’ve tripled the number of graduates in the last four years, and that’s pretty amazing. In 2010, when we formed this partnership, we had 25 students, and now we have about 200 students. That’s another spectacular thing under Rancho’s leadership.”

Congratulations to our graduates, their families and everyone who helped make this success possible. Your hard work inspires us all. The future is bright!
