An opportunity to share your voice and experience with the state

The Commission is hosting a virtual listening session for parents and caregivers of individuals identified as part of the Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA) priority populations on Thursday, July 23 at 12:00 p.m.

The BHSA values stakeholder input, including from parents and caregivers of children and youth, adults, or older adults with a serious mental illness (SMI), serious emotional disturbance (SED), moderate/severe substance use disorder (SUD), or co-occurring conditions who are also experiencing or at risk of:

💬 Chronic homelessness
💬 Involvement in the criminal or juvenile justice system
💬 Reentry from incarceration or youth correctional facilities
💬 Placement in or transition from the child welfare system
💬 Conservatorship
💬 Institutionalization

This session is an important opportunity for parents and caregivers of individuals identified as part of the BHSA priority populations to share their experiences and help inform the Commission’s upcoming advocacy contract, ensuring their voices are included and reflected in BHSA planning, policy, and decision-making.

Parents and caregivers interested in participating are encouraged to register here: https://bhsoac-ca-gov.zoom.us/meeting/register/8Md1s2ekQJGR9p9r0A4zQw #/registration

This July, we honor Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as, Bebe Campbell National Mental Health Awareness Month.

We take this day to remember that’s mental health isn’t a one-size-fits-all. Cultures, languages and lived experiences are not always reflected or respected and that remains a barrier to accessing care.

NAMI Monterey County is launching an in person Grupo de Apoyo para Familias for loved ones of individuals living witj mental condition (Held in Spanish).

Together, let’s recognize Bebe Moore Campbell national minority mental health awareness month.

We hope you can join us! 💙

NAMI Monterey County provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

Driven by the reality that our friends and family in the LGBT+ community are impacted unequally by mental illness and a lack of mental health resources, NAMI Monterey county is inspired to offer unique assistance with a LGBTQ+ plus specific Connection Support Group.

Wherever you might be night along your journey, you are welcome.

Rest, Recharge, Renew: Sixth Annual Rest Up Week

“At NAMI, we know that supporting mental health means creating a culture where people can rest, recharge, and bring their best selves to the work we do together,” said Daniel H. Gillison, Jr., CEO of NAMI.

“Rest Up Week reflects that commitment. By encouraging our team to take time for themselves, we’re reinforcing a simple truth: caring for our people is essential to advancing our mission.”

While NAMI Monterey will close during Rest Up Week, support will continue to be available from the NAMI National HelpLine. The NAMI HelpLine will operate during normal hours, 7a.m. to 7p.m. ET, from Monday, June 29, through Thursday, July 2, and will be closed on Friday, July 3. People can reach the HelpLine by calling 1-800-950-NAMI (6264), texting “NAMI” to 62640, or emailing [email protected].
