October 4th - 10th is mental illness awareness week!

Since 1990, Americans have recognized the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week, following NAMI’s successful efforts to persuade Congress to create this critical awareness event.

This year, NAMI’s theme for Mental Illness Awareness Week is “Turning Science Into Hope,” reflecting our commitment to advancing mental health through science, innovations in care, and the lived experiences of people affected by mental health conditions.

We're proud to share that our very own Monterey County volunteer and YESS Council member, Brianna, will be presenting at the NAMI California Annual Conference this year! 🎉

Our office is taking a team of five to attend insightful workshops, including "Behind the Uniform," presented by Brianna.

Interested in learning more about supporting the mental health of military service members and their families? Reach out to our office! Brianna is available to offer this presentation locally.

NAMI is offering a Familia-a-Familia at Sunstreet Centers South County location!

This is a program is a free, 8-session program for family members, caregivers, and loved ones supporting someone living with a mental health condition.

This program is offered in Spanish and provides a space to learn, connect, and find support.

Holding Big Sur in Our Hearts

Our hearts are with our Big Sur neighbors as they navigate the Timber and Plaskett fires.
We’re thinking of everyone facing uncertainty, disruption, evacuation, and the emotional weight that comes with an experience like this.

At NAMI Monterey County, we know that mental health is part of disaster response and recovery, too. Feelings of fear, stress, grief, exhaustion, or being overwhelmed are understandable during times of crisis.

To our Big Sur neighbors: you are not alone.
Please take care of yourselves and one another, stay connected to trusted sources of information, and give yourself permission to take things one moment at a time.
