Well, I took the final load for the year in today. 1000 # / $420. Dickinson County yearly total was 24,384 # / $9342. This is just cans, doesn’t include the donation from Abilene Machine, and St Andrews catholic school. A big thanks to everyone. Can’t wait to see what we do this year.

Last load delivered for Salina, barely hit my goal. $30,235 from a little over 70,000 lbs of cans. Math is not my strong suit, but I figure in the neighborhood of 35 trips funded since I started helping Warren in 2018. Thats a wrap!

P.S. I will now be in hiding, I did not get a picture as directed by Pat Leon.

Saline County - I have made the tough decision to permanently close the site Oct 15th. That day I will tear it down and begin emptying trailers. 100% of your drop off's up to that point will go to KHF. This has been mostly a one man show for 6 years with a stand in while I was serving overseas and some help sorting occasionally. As a retired servicemember I truly believe in this mission, if I didn't I would not have hauled nearly 70k lbs of cans (and a fair bit of trash) to the tune of $30,000 in the last 6 years.

You can still donate directly to Allmetal Recycling and BFR Metals with proceeds going to KHF. It is my understanding the sites located at the VFW and former Animal Shelter locations donate a portion of proceeds to KHF as well. No changes to Dickinson/Lincoln counties. They are still going strong!

I would like to thank Jean Bender and the Central Kansas Free Fair board for allowing me to set up barrels at the beer garden and demolition derby. Also a big thanks to the Rodeo board for allowing the barrels to be placed at the rodeo grand stands. A special thanks to the members of American Legion who put the barrels in one place and set the bags of cans out. I am missing two blue barrel lids if anyone sees them, they say aluminum cans only on them.

May was a great month for Cans 4 Kansas Honor Flight! 2460lbs and 780.00. Remember if you are having an event I have barrels available. Please remember no trash, this includes animal food cans! Also, whoever is putting bricks into the bottoms of the trash bags, that is illegal and a pain to remove. On a great note, we will be taking over the animal shelter drop bins in Salina. The animal shelter can crew has asked us too. Salina American Legion post commander says they will run with it. I will help out with the transition. Please tie all bags, as it makes it easier to move and unload.

The Kansas Honor Flights program might be in jeopardy due to a lack of participation from Vietnam War veterans.

This page may be quite but cans are still rolling to the scale! Most recent from the Lincoln area! Keep the cans coming!

I have finally reached my limit here in Salina. This site would have not been full had someone or multiple people not decided to use it as a dump site. I took a break from moving trash to take the second picture, I would say over 40% trash in all and this is not the first time. Unless someone else want to take this on I am going to close it and tear down next week. If this repeats at the 9th street location it will close as well. A few can ruin a good thing for many. I have hauled nearly $25k in over the last 5 years so this is not an easy decision. -Wade

The Cans 4 Kansas Honor Flight Story

Cans 4 Kansas Honor Flights Honor Flights is a program begun in 2005 to send our World War II Veterans to Washington DC, to see the memorial dedicated to them at no cost to the veteran. The National WWII Memorial opened to the public on April 29, 2004, and was dedicated on Saturday, May 29, 2004 almost 69 years after WWII ended. Kansas Honor Flight (KHF) is a hub of the Honor Flight Network. KHF sends only Kansas residents to D.C. KHF started out sending WWII Veterans to D.C. Now it has expanded to take WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans with WWII and any terminally ill being priority. This is a three day mission. All expenses are free to the veterans. The only money the veterans might need is for souvenirs and cold adult beverages in the hotel bar. All hotels, meals and transportation are covered. Guardian’s normally family members travel with some of the veterans that need assistance and they pay the same $800 it cost to send a veteran. This pays for all their expenses also.
