Remembering Verleta Myers
The Konza District mourns the passing of Verleta Myers, who passed away on October 15, 2026, at age 73. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her husband, Douglas, her family, and the many friends who loved her.
Scouting held a special place in Verleta’s heart. Beginning in seventh grade, she made it a lifelong commitment to encourage and support generations of young people. Her dedication reflected the values we strive to teach: service to others, perseverance, and helping each person discover their potential.
Verleta brought warmth, creativity, and humor to the lives around her. She welcomed people easily, loved sharing stories and songs, and expressed her unmistakable personality through the hundreds of hats she made - including her memorable Kansas Minnie Pearl hat. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she treasured her family above all else.
As a Scouting community, we honor her years of dedication and the encouragement she gave to others. Her life reminds us that kindness matters, that showing up for young people makes a difference, and that service can take many forms.
We invite our Scouts, leaders, and families to remember Verleta by sharing a story, offering kindness, or helping someone along their own Scouting journey.
Thank you, Verleta, for the heart you shared with Scouting. You will be dearly missed.
