The Saline County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration Team Up for the 31st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

On Saturday, October 24th, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saline County Sheriff's Office Deputies will be at 3 locations in the City of Salina to receive old and unneeded medications.

Dillons 1235 E Cloud ST (Patio in front of Pharmacy Drive thru)

Walmart 2900 S 9th ST (South Front Entrance)

Salina Regional Health Center 400 S Santa Fe Ave (Circle Drive)

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

Two more K9 teams headed home after a week of training and testing. Both teams are deployment ready for two more years!

K9 Leroy recertified as a Level 2 Mantrailing after a valiant attempt to level up. Little doubt he will get it next year as this team continues to grow together.

K9 Marshal successfully passed his Level 3 which is the highest level successfully completed by a team with this certifying body. Marshal also maintains an Urban Mantrailing certification and will retest in 2027. This means he can operate in city and rural environments.

Last week K9’s Kyra, Mack and Fancy Tater attended the Four States K9 Seminar in the Texarkana area hosted by Bowie County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue. Kyra learned a lot and continues to progress towards being a deployable team. Fancy Tater certified with the US Mantrailing Association! Sorry no pictures of Mack, all business this week😂….

Today we we headed out Horsethief Canyon to do some training. This was a good opportunity to setup our command post and fine tune that process. The goal is under 10 minutes and we are very close!

Scenarios required transport by UTV and boat to deployment site and all teams did great. It was a beautiful morning to get out and train somewhere new. Thanks to KDWP for the support and Saline County Emergency Management for adding some tech to the trailer to help manage larger incidents.

We have been at it hard this week volunteering our time and resources to support our community and beyond!

On Wednesday K9 Marshal was requested by the US Marshals Service to assist in the location of fugitive in Cherokee County. (Back in Custody)

On Friday afternoon ground search teams, UTV and K9’s assisted patrol deputies with a missing autistic juvenile. (Located safe)

Friday and Saturday assisted the Salina VFW with overnight security for their gun show.

Today we are back out training dogs, this time in the maze that is Lakewood Park!

This has been a long term and expensive project to purchase radios with the proper encryption to talk to all our partner agencies and access the state template. 10 refurbished Motorola radios gives us one for every vehicle and six assigned to the command trailer for our ground, water, mounted and K9 search teams.
