NAIFA of the Heartland Our Mission is to advocate for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhance business and professional skills and promote ethical conduct.

Founded in 1890, as The National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU), NAIFA is one of the nation's oldest and largest associations representing the interests of insurance professionals from every Congressional district in the United States. NAIFA members assist consumers by focusing their practices on one or more of the following: life insurance and annuities, health insurance and employee benefits, multiline, and financial advising and investments.

NAIFA Heartland was proud to welcome Ryan Boswell, Ombudsman Supervisor and Mediator with the Kansas Department of Labor’s Workers Compensation Division, who lead a two-hour continuing education program on Kansas workers compensation yesterday. The presentation covered the foundations of workers compensation, methods of providing coverage, and injury reporting requirements.

We sincerely thank Ryan for sharing his expertise and helping attendees deepen their understanding of this important area of insurance.

NAIFA Heartland brings insurance and financial-services professionals together.

On Tuesday, August 18, Philip R. Michael, Assistant General Counsel for the Kansas Department of Insurance, opened the program with a one-hour class on the Ethics and Legal Responsibilities of Insurance Producers. John Eichkorn, Director of Enforcement for the Kansas Department of Insurance, followed with a one-hour class examining insurance fraud and its effects on consumers, insurers, and our profession. Angie Hughes, LTCP and Managing Partner at Producers XL, completed the day with four hours of in-depth Long-Term Care education.

We sincerely thank Philip, John, and Angie for sharing their knowledge and experience. We also thank every professional who attended and invested the day in strengthening the service they provide to their clients.

Educational programs like this are an important part of NAIFA Heartland’s commitment to professional development, ethical leadership, and a stronger insurance and financial-services community.

Team registration is still open for the 4th Annual Joe Seed Memorial Golf Tournament.

Public four-person scramble tournament benefits professional education and scholarships in Kansas.

Tee Time: 9:00 AM
Entry Fee: $85 per golfer
Registration Deadline - September 6

Each golfer’s entry includes green fees, cart rental, a team photograph, and a meal provided by Martinelli’s Little Italy. Participants will also have opportunities to win hole prizes and cash awards, purchase mulligans, and bid on an exclusive collection of silent-auction items.

Support from this tournament helped NAIFA Heartland award a $2,000 scholarship to a local graduating senior in June 2026. This year’s event will continue that commitment to education and community investment.

Insurance and financial services professionals are invited to attend NAIFA Heartland’s upcoming Continuing Education program on Tuesday, August 18.

Attendees may complete up to six hours of CE through three courses addressing important professional responsibilities and client needs:

• Ethics with Philip Michael | 10:00–11:00 AM
• Insurance Fraud with John Eichorn | 11:00 AM–12:00 PM
• Long-Term Care with Angie Hughes | 1:00–5:00 PM

NAIFA Heartland members receive all courses and lunch as part of their membership. For non-members, each CE course is $15, and lunch is $20. NAIFA Heartland will submit completed CE credits to NIPR on each attendee’s behalf.

NAIFA Heartland members, your support reaches far beyond the golf course.

The generosity shown at last year’s Joe Seed Memorial Golf Tournament helped make our NAIFA Heartland scholarship possible. Every team registration, sponsorship, raffle ticket, and contribution helped us invest in the next generation and continue Joe Seed’s legacy of service.

The 4th Annual Joe Seed Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Registration begins at 8:00 AM, with tee time at 9:00 AM.

The four-person scramble is $85 per golfer and includes cart rental, green fees, team photos, a provided meal, hole prizes, cash awards, a 50/50 raffle, and more.

In 2026, the United States celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

NAIFA’s story began in 1890.

NAIFA was built to serve the professionals who help American families protect what matters most. Life insurance, financial guidance, retirement protection, business planning, and long-term security shape real lives, real families, and real communities. That is why NAIFA’s work matters.

NAIFA of the Heartland was proud to recognize our 2026 scholarship award recipients yesterday at Martinelli’s Little Italy in Salina.

Congratulations to Lainey Peschka, recipient of the 2026 NAIFA of the Heartland $2,000 Scholarship for Local High School Seniors.

Lainey plans to attend Kansas State University and pursue studies in Accounting with interest in Finance and becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Her application reflected strong work ethic, clear goals, and a desire to make a meaningful difference through her future career.

We were also pleased to recognize Southeast of Saline with the $500 school award for submitting the highest number of completed scholarship entries. Thank you to school counselor Megan Haden for representing Southeast of Saline and for helping encourage student participation in this opportunity.

Congratulations again to Lainey Peschka, her family, and Southeast of Saline.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at Martinelli’s Little Italy in Salina for our NAIFA of the Heartland CE event and lunch.

We also want to give a special thank you to our speakers, Aaron Mendoza, who led our session on Reverse Mortgages, and Joseph Kuhn, who led our session on Social Security Disability Income. These amazing speakers gave our members and guests information and were counted towards Continuing Education credits.

That is what NAIFA Heartland is here for. We provide our members with continued education, expert guidance, local relationships, legislative representation, and time spent with people who understand the work.

For newer agents and advisors, the early years can feel overwhelming. Client questions come quickly. Product details matter. Compliance matters. Confidence takes time.
