Check this interesting film on the mining clean up, river restoration and conservation easements on the Upper Arkansas River. This is some of the big work it took to create the Colorado Gold Medal Waters along this stretch of river.

Hot off the presses in the The Leadville Herald Democrat, a story about the Arkansas River Community Preserve created by the Central Colorado Conservancy. Central Colorado Conservancy announced that the Arkansas River Community Preserve (ARC Preserve) located in southern Lake County has been expanded by 74 acres. The ARC Preserve includes the Shawn Andrick Memorial Preserve previously established by Central Colorado Conservancy. The new acquisitions grew the ARC Preserve to 345 acres with almost three miles of Arkansas River frontage.

Learning to build PALS (post assisted log structures) with River Science on an incised creek south of Florissant, CO. PALS can help trap sediment in stream systems to help raise the level of stream beds up toward their historical levels, in turn raising the water table and helping ranchers continue to grow grass for cattle in these fields near the creek. In this case, the PALS also help keep sediment out of a downstream reservoir.
