‼️ Important Announcement ‼️
Saxon Youth Baseball and South Salem Little League are joining forces!
What does this mean?
It means that all Saxon Youth Baseball players will now sign up for South Salem Little League. If there are enough players and a coach from an age group interested in playing on a tournament team, there will be tryouts held and a team created with Saxon Youth Baseball (likely at an additional cost). If there is not enough interest, then players will be placed onto regular little league teams for the year and be eligible for the All Star team at the end of season.
Why are we partnering with SSLL?
One of our reasons is participation. Splitting recreational teams between the two leagues was causing each league to have fewer teams overall. This made it more difficult to have enough teams to play to fill our schedule, since little league cannot play against Cal Ripken teams.
If we were unable to fill a full team for tournament ball and canceled the team, it was likely too late to sign up for another league, and we didn’t think that was fair. It can also be difficult to find a parent to coach a tournament team, as there is much more that goes into it than a recreational league.
Also, the city has greatly increased the costs for us to use the school’s baseball fields. This is making it more difficult for us to keep our fees low. We were already splitting field time with SSLL, so this opens up all fields to everyone and helps with scheduling.
We feel that this partnership will help everyone. All kids will be able to play baseball, and if there is enough interest to create a tournament team then that can still happen. We are excited to see these changes this year and hope to see a few Saxon YB teams out there! Please reach out with any questions you may have.
