This area sustained significant damage, displacing over 10 families from their homes. The Kwajalein Emergency Operations Center (KEOC) was activated immediately during the incident to coordinate response efforts. Today, the KEOC convened with the Kwajalein Atoll Disaster Committee (KADC), comprising the Mayor of Kwajalein Atoll and the nine elected council members. During the meeting, KEOC submitted its preliminary report to KADC and expressed gratitude for their ongoing support and collaboration. Following this, an assessment of seven homes that sustained partial damage was conducted by Risk Communication (Risk Comm) and the Kwajalein Atoll Development Authority (KADA). KADA, serving as a Co-Lead of the Infrastructure Cluster, participated in the evaluation of the structural integrity of these homes. The primary objective was to determine whether the homes were safe for the families to return to. The assessment revealed that all seven homes had only minor damage, which requires repairs to ensure safety. Once these repairs are completed, the families will be able to relocate back to their homes securely. A comprehensive assessment will be conducted to evaluate the extent of damage to the fully destroyed homes, including structural integrity, material degradation, safety hazards, and cost.
We sincerely appreciate the many volunteers who helped extinguish the fire, despite lacking formal firefighting training. Many of you risked your own lives, so thank you!
Our gratitude extends to Col. Cannon and the entire Garrison of Kwajalein for activating their Emergency Operations Center, which enabled Great Bridge to coordinate transportation for the Garrison Fire Department and bring in essential supplies for the affected families. Kommol tata USAG-KA!
Today, we received the good news that the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, led by HE President Hilda and her Cabinet, has approved a $125,000 fund to support cleanup efforts at the site, as well as reimbursement and related needs. Kommol tata, Madam President and Cabinet!
Finally, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our Ebeye community for your ongoing support in this effort. To the many individuals, businesses, and churches—your commitment is deeply appreciated.
