Every year, before Shop with a Cop Back to School and or Christmas, I don't sleep.

Not because of the shopping lists. Not because of the logistics. Because of one fear that keeps me up all night, every single time.

I'm scared the families will show up... and the officers won't.

On Saturday we had 130+ kids and youth show up ready to shop for new school clothes, some of them nominated by Salem Housing Authority, Marion County Housing Authority, Salem Police Department, and Marion County Sheriff's P&P and LEAD programs.

These are families in our community who needed a hand this year, no judgment, no red tape, just help.

My job in the weeks before is simple: line up the officers, line up the funding, and hope it all comes together.

And every single year, my anxiety climbs right up until the moment the doors open.

This year, 40+ officers showed up.

Not to write tickets. Not to respond to a call. To push shopping carts, help a nervous 8-year-old pick out sneakers, and remind a room full of kids that the people in uniform are there for them too.

That's community policing at its best, and it happened right here in our community.

To Salem Housing Authority, Marion County Housing Authority, Salem PD, and Marion County Sheriff's Office P&P and LEAD programs, thank you for nominating the families who needed us most.

And to every donor and every officer who shows up year after year, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. We couldn't do this without you.

Yesterday we were blessed to invite 155 kids from around Marion County to Shop With A Cop for Back to School CLOTHING! Thank you to Fred Meyer South Commercial for being a fantastic host! Our raffle is also a big piece of our golf tournament. This year we have some great prizes including a Noveske Rifleworks rifle, Walther Arms, Inc. PDP Pro, Chick-fil-A for a year, 3 month membership and swag at The Back Nine - Keizer , Portland Timbers tickets, Portland Spirit Cruises and Events lunch cruise, 7 nights at White Elm Lodge Sunriver, wine basket and wine tasting at Willamette Valley Vineyards - Estate Winery, brake job from Jiffy L**e salem503, and a blackstone grill!

Tickets are only $10 dollars a piece. Do not need to be present to win. Only 999 tickets sold. Drawing is 3 pm on Monday June 8th at Creekside Golf Club and you are welcome to join for the fun. Exciting news for the Golf Tournament this year! We partnered with Marion County Fire District No.1 and they will be bringing their ladder truck to Creekside Golf Club to drop 100 golf balls near the putting green! We are selling each golf ball for $50 dollars. First place will win $1,250 cash, second place is $500 Bandon Dunes Golf Resort Gift Card, and third place is a round of golf for four with carts at Langdon Farms Golf Club.
