🚦 Community Involvement Helps Make Our Roads Safer 🚦

Our community shares with us locations where they have traffic concerns through our online portal. This community engagement helps us focus our efforts and drive down traffic fatality numbers.

On February 12 and February 16, 2026, your Salem Police Traffic Team conducted two traffic safety projects at four specific locations. Here is a summary of the work officers did to enhance road safety for everyone:

The 2025 annual Aquatic Invasive Species Report is now available!

Oregon has five boat inspection stations near Oregon’s southern, eastern, and northern borders. Ashland and Ontario watercraft inspection stations operate year-round. The seasonal stations in Klamath Falls and Brookings opened the first week of May, while the Umatilla station opened in mid-June. All three seasonal stations remained open until the first week of October.

The report outlines the types of boats inspected, along with the number of decontaminations due to AIS contamination.

This report also outlines the revenue generated from AIS Prevention Permit sales, which provided (either partial or full) funding for seven full-time positions and ten seasonal or part-time positions. Additionally, funding supported law enforcement activities such as checking boaters for a current AIS or the Waterway Access Permit for paddlecraft and enforcing mandatory stops at boat inspection stations.

This morning, our team joined Isaiah from Salem Leadership Foundation and representatives from the East Salem Suburban Neighborhood Association - ESSNA for a Peace Walk around the East Salem community.

We picked up trash, shared good conversations, and focused on being a positive presence in the neighborhood we are proud to be part of.
