Plummer Youth Promise

Our vision is every young person has a family unconditionally
committed to nurture, protect, and guide them to
successful adulthood.

Young people who leave the foster care or juvenile justice system without safe, stable & permanent family connections face grim outcomes, including high rates of homelessness, unemployment, early parenting and lack of education. Plummer’s mission is to set a standard of excellence that improves outcomes for young people in or at risk of entering state care by deeply engaging youth, families, and t

he systems that impact them to develop permanent family relationships, skills, and community connections.

Last week, while Arthur J. Epstein Hillel School faculty and staff were busy prepping classrooms for the new school year, they paused to cook meals for the youth at Plummer. Thank you for helping remind the youth we serve that they're supported by a caring community💙.

We are so grateful for the compassion shown at EHS and hope the school year kicks off to a great start!

🏕️ Every summer, young people in our residential program head north for a favorite tradition: the annual camping trip at Sebago Lake!

They enjoyed kayaking, swimming in Sebago's clear waters, and evenings around the campfire roasting marshmallows. Thank you to our community of supporters for making adventures like this possible. 💙

We had a wonderful visit yesterday from DCF commissioners, who stopped by to see our newly renovated campus and have a thoughtful conversation about our work! 🏡💙

It was an honor to share our space and discuss how we can continue building lasting family connections for young people in foster care.

We're so thankful for our volunteers who help bring in food for the youth we serve! We recently received delicious, homemade beef and chicken pastelitos that everyone loved.🥟

We took a moment to reconnect as a team and gathered for a summer party with lawn games and barbecue. Moments like these help our team stay connected and keeps our mission moving forward!

Recently youth from our Winter Island residential program took a boat ride out to Bakers Island. It was a great chance for the group to get out on the water and enjoy some fresh air together.

They got to take in the historic lighthouse and beautiful coastal scenery. This trip was kindly coordinated by a generous longtime Plummer volunteer.

Meet Octavia Fugerson Brewington, our Evaluation Coordinator. Octavia started as the Data Specialist of the Permanency Mediation team. She felt inspired by the opportunity to engage with data and analytics to inform a broad audience about building strong connections within complex family dynamics. She enjoys explaining “the why” behind the numbers and simplifying technical information to reveal the bigger connection with our mission.

Octavia has been a strong youth advocate since her teens and found a passion for conflict resolution by starting with consensus organizing training; locally, with the Multi-Agency Alliance for Children, then nationally with the Jim Casey Youth Opportunity Initiative. Her knowledge of constructive dialogue and basic mediation certification is awarded by J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at the University of Georgia.

Working on Plummer’s Permanency Mediation team allowed her to highlight key performance indicators, unpacking the data for context and connecting it to a child-centered approach to permanency planning. In her expanded role as Evaluation Coordinator, she now helps support outcomes and evaluation work for all programs at Plummer.

Behind every piece of data is a story, and Octavia is here to help us understand it to empower youth and families with support that leads to the best outcomes for all.

When Caroline Plummer passed away in 1854, she left behind something in her will that would change countless lives. 📜

She left more than $23,000 to start a "farm school of reform" for young people who needed stability and support.

More than 170 years later, her generosity is still the foundation we build on, and every young person we help find lasting family connections today traces back to that one decision.

On Saturday our program manager and residents from Winter Island had a blast attending the Corey Fanjoy Box-a-thon🥊at TITLE Boxing Club Danvers, MA.

Huge thank you to TITLE Boxing Club in Danvers, MA for offering memberships and boxing equipment packages for the youth we serve!

What a great way to stay active, fit, and gain confidence with a supportive community 💙.
