Heartfelt Gratitude & Best Wishes

Today, we say a bittersweet thank you to not just a co-founder, but a dear friend Maureen Rashidi. From the very beginning, her passion, dedication, and heart have been at the core of UCSA. Her impact on our mission and the lives we serve is immeasurable.

Maureen drew together a coalition of women determined to make restroom accessibility a reality. Her creativity and drive to make all spaces truly inclusive, will be greatly missed.

While she is stepping away to focus on family, her influence and friendship will always remain. I’m beyond grateful for everything she has given to this organization.

Wishing you all the love and success in this next chapter !

Why do we LOVE Lois Curtis?

Without Lois's self-advocacy and determination, many people would still be institutionalized today. The Olmstead vs LC case closed the gaps of the 1990 ADA act.

As a Black disabled women, Lois had the odds against her here in the US. After years of reaching out to the Atlanta Legal Aid Society for counsel, they took her case and the rest is history!

When asked "what do you wish for all the people you've helped move out of the institution to live in their communities?" Lois responded "I hope they live long lives and have their own place. I hope they make money. I hope they learn every day."

Being a part of a community is what allows people to to thrive and live a full life.

This Valentine's Day, this Black History Month, and EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. we are grateful for the life of Lois Curtis and her contributions to making this a more just world.

Accessibility isn’t just about ramps and parking spaces—it’s about ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or ability, has the dignity and support they deserve. One crucial yet often overlooked necessity is adult-sized changing tables in public restrooms.

For individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and families, the lack of proper facilities can mean choosing between unsafe conditions or staying home. No one should have to be changed on a bathroom floor due to inadequate accommodations.

By advocating for adult-sized changing tables in public spaces, we are pushing for inclusion, dignity, and equal access for all. Everyone deserves to navigate the world without barriers.

It’s time for businesses, governments, and communities to step up. Let’s make public spaces truly accessible!

Call to Action !

Please oppose special education bill HB699, aiming to cut special ed services and further limit the definitions of disabilities.

It would eliminate services for kids specifically diagnosed with dyslexia, functional blindness other visual impairments, and many other diagnoses.

Support services such as OT, Speech, PT, etc. would be at risk of being eliminated.

HB699 will be heard in the Education Policy & Administration Committee on Monday, February 3 at 10:15am.

You can submit your opposition for this bill and/or testimony before the end of the day TODAY!

Did you know that Dicks Sporting Goods/Dicks House of Sports in Salem, NH has a Universal Changing Station?!

The NH law requires that new builds meeting specific size and traffic thresholds need to install a universal changing station.

One of our members happened upon this table while out shopping at the Mall at Rockingham Park!

Huge shoutout to Dicks, the town of Salem, and the builders for following the NH law and not finding ways to get out of it! You have made shopping for so many families accessible!
