Enter our Home Garden & Window Box Competition! We only had two submissions for window boxes so are hoping to receive more - but both categories will remain open. Please share with your friends and family who have beautiful plants outside of their homes, the final deadline will be August 20th. The winner of each category will receive a prize.

ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS: Our photo contest for window boxes and home gardens - please submit one per household, either category. Small prizes for the best in each! There is no fee to enter, only your photo and name/address (only the photo is public)! Submit by August 15th!

We all want to do our part to help make shine - and there are two groups especially who are helping to do just that through regular community clean-ups!

This weekend I joined Keep Salem Beautiful to clean up litter at Salem Willows and the City’s official Beautification Committee for a clean up at Mary Jane Lee Park.

** GARDEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY**

Hi All,

The week is looking to have several rainy days and cool air; therefore, I am trying to pick the day that is possibly the best of the week -- so it is Wednesday, April 9, 9:30 start time.

Wednesday, April 9, 2025, 9:30 - 11:30 am:
1. Garden #35, across from Witch House at Intersection of Summer, Essex and North Street

and

2. Garden #50 Corner of Essex and Sewall (in front of the YMCA) -- this garden plot is a new garden location (that we cleaned out last summer); it surrounds the newly painted artbox and will be planted after it receives composted/amended soil.

We shall start across from Witch House and then move on to the small garden in front of the YMCA.

Reminder: warm jacket, hat and gloves are needed in this early Spring weather!

For Wednesday, April 2, 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Today, April 1, 2025, Meara and I cleaned out the first garden on Hawthorne Blvd. #30. Since we did not get to the other two islands today, located up towards Hotel Hawthorne, I would like to return to Hawthorne Blvd. tomorrow and clean up the two gardens up on Hawthorne Blvd. -- they are gardens, #5 & #4.

So, tomorrow we shall not be at Lafayette #31, corner of Lafayette & Washington Streets. We shall be on Hawthorne Blvd.

Thanks for being flexible as to the change of location for tomorrow.

Reminder: warm jacket, hat and gloves are your best friends on these cooler days.
