Bradley Clark, Southeast Missouri District Director for U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) was guest speaker at Salem Rotary on Monday June 15, 2026. Also a guest was Cole Barnfield, Intern at the Cape Girardeau Office. Clark oversees regional operations, acts as the key liaison to local communities, and is based out of the Senator's office in Cape Girardeau. Office Location: 555 Independence St., Suite 1600, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703 Contact Phone: 573-334-5995 Background: Before joining Sen. Hawley's team, Clark worked for the Missouri Department of Economic Development managing federal initiatives and the Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission. You can find official updates and contact information on the Senator Josh Hawley Official Website. Senator Hawley can help Missourians with many federal issues but you must contact your state representative for state issues. Josh Hawley with testimony from Tim Tebow was able to get a measure passed to combat child exploitation. Trump signs Hawley measure adding 200 child exploitation investigators in largest crackdown effort yet. The $108.5M provision is part of the $70B reconciliation package, the largest federal investment to combat child trafficking. The St. Louis area played a key role in the development of the Manhattan Project and the Cold War nuclear arms race with facilities across the region. Contamination tied in part to the illegal disposal of waste from that era has left a legacy of illness in parts of North St. Louis County and elsewhere. The cleanup of contamination of Coldwater Creek is projected to take until the late 2030s based on current funding. Long-delayed remediation of the West Lake Landfill could begin in 2027.
Included in the reconciliation bill Hawley led efforts to expand RECA to include almost two dozen ZIP codes in the St. Louis region in St. Louis, St. Louis County and St. Charles County. This week he said Missouri claims have amounted to $101,950,000 since the expanded law was signed last July. Thanks to Program Chair, Jessica Booker and Rotarian Dr. Nate Wills for hosting our program this week.

Matthew Hart, DO, Division Chief Logistics, Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) was our guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Salem on June 8th, 2026. Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) and Community Paramedicine (CP) programs in Missouri allow paramedics to provide in-home clinical care, chronic disease management, and post-discharge support to prevent hospital readmissions. These localized, proactive services are heavily concentrated in rural and high-utilizer areas. SHO-ME MIH Network: Originating as a pilot program in Washington County, this nationally recognized, award-winning model deploys community paramedics to perform home safety assessments, medication management, and preventive care in tandem with local federally qualified health centers. It has expanded to serve over 20 rural Missouri counties. Statewide Support & Resources: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and the Missouri EMS Association collaborate to offer technical assistance, training, and expansion funding for MIH networks across the state. Patients can self-refer to the program or be referred by a healthcare provider, emergency medical services (EMS) provider, or hospital emergency department upon discharge. Ask your provider for a referral or call us at 417-328-6189 to learn more about MIH eligibility. Thanks to Rotarian Jessica Booker, Program Chair and Rotarian Tabitha Stanfast for hosting our speaker today. Salem Rotary meets most Mondays and visitors are always welcome to attend and hear a great program and enjoy a catered lunch.

Shala Plank Shepherd was guest speaker at Salem Rotary April 20th, 2026. Shala and her husband Zach own and operate Focus Welding and Fabrication in Rolla. Shala and Zach started Focus Welding and Fabrication 4 years ago and have proven that with dedication, commitment, and a love of what you do you can be successful. Shala worked with husband for the first year but did not like the way he bossed so she started her own business, Vintage Apron Catering, along with her parents. In spite of the word "Focus" in the name the only thing they focus on "is it metal, and do you want it welded?" Focus Welding offers a wide variety of projects including: Handrails, Staircases, Entry Gates, Platforms, Furniture, Sculptures and Signage. And if that does cover your needs, just ask for "anything else." WHAT SETS FOCUS WELDING and FABRICATION APART? At Focus Welding and Fabrication, we don't just build with metal. We build with precision, pride and purpose. What sets us apart is our commitment to combining craftsmanship with creativity. Every project, big or small is approached with the same dedication to detail and durability. For custom solutions they bring your vision to life with designs tailored to fit your style, brand or space. They listen, collaborate and deliver results that exceed expectations. No matter your choice of material, Aluminum, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, A606 Corten Steel, Cast Steel, Brass or Copper your project deserves more than "good enough" it deserves Focus. Focus Welding and Fabrication has a presence on Facebook. Thanks to Rotarian Mitzi Johnson, Town and Country Bank, a Corporate Member of Salem Rotary Club for hosting our speaker. Jessica Booker is our Program Chairperson and responsible for our programs each week.

Luke and Hannah Heithold were guest speakers at Salem Rotary on April 13th, 2026. They are the owners of Rooted and Built laser engraving business and also Hometown Murals. Both grew up in Salem but after graduating from high school they attended Oklahoma Christian University. They lived in Edmond, OK where they started their dream to work in business together, thus came Rooted & Built Design. Luke has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Hannah in Interior Design, and together they like staying busy with home projects, traveling, and keeping up with their four children. They now live in Salem, MO where they both grew up and can now be close to both their families. "We started this as a creative outlet from my constant “stay-at-home mom duties” and to fill the desire Luke and I have always had to get to work together, create together, and dream together. Now, we especially enjoy the ability to create treasured keepsakes for others, to provide a meaningful wooden gift to a loved one that will stand the test of time. And most of all, we hope that our business and the work we put into it shows our children that if they work hard they can create the things they want and achieve big dreams. We hope as they get older, that they can look back and see the love their parents have for each other and the desire we have to work together and that they would implement that love for their spouses and families in the future". You can find "Rooted and Built" on Facebook with lots of examples of their creative work. Thanks to Rotarian Catherine Wynn, Executive Director of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, a Corporate Member for hosting our speakers.

AJ Seay, Director of the LovePack program for Salem was guest speaker at Salem Rotary on April 6th, 2026. AJ was also a Salem Rotarian for over 20 years. Just what is a LovePack?? It is a pack of individual serving foods placed in bags by people who care about our Dent County children, then distributed to 8 Dent County schools to be placed in the backpacks of children that are suffering hunger distress over the weekend. The food products are non-perishable, easily opened and do not have to be cooked. The children that receive the LovePacks are determined by the school administrators. This program began in 2009 and today serves approximately 170 kids each week with 23 volunteers. The volunteers packed 5128 LovePacks for the 24-25 school year and 60,369 since 2009. This program is housed at Salem United Methodist Church but it is a community program. A community program that shows how effective we can be; the kind of impact we can have, the difference we can make when we work together for the common good. All are welcome to participate and there are many ways to help. We meet on Monday afternoon at 1:30 to set out the food, and Tuesday mornings at 9:30 to pack and distribute the LovePacks. In addition supplies are delivered to the church at noon on Sunday at which time you have the opportunity to help unload and move the items to the storage room. Another way to help is by double bagging recycled plastic bags. And of course, you have the opportunity to donate to LovePacks by sending your gift to LovePacks Backpack Program, 801 E. Scenic Rivers Blvd. Salem MO 65560. This is a tax deductible charitable contribution. Thanks to Rotarian Jessica Booker for hosting our speaker.

Guest speaker at Salem Rotary on Monday March 30th was Tabitha Stanfast and guest David Massengale providing an idea for a modular wooden railways train table. A layout that would be portable to be shared with the community for the enjoyment of kids and adults. There are many reasons to establish a modular standard. And the ways that the tables could be used are also varied. It is a mixed media project that stretches the imagination. A teacher or parent - even a local organization - is needed to provide direction and oversight. Salem Rotary has agreed to be part of this project with funding and hands on participation. We hope to have a layout and setup completed and in place at Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center in time for the holiday season in 2026. Thanks to Tabitha and David for putting in the time and energy to get this project started.
