The Salem 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s! We raised money and our own awareness of our community’s resources to help patients and caregivers suffering from Alzheimer’s and other dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association provides a 24/7 Helpline, support, information and promotes critical research. Please consider donating!

Spending an afternoon at Salem’s Center for Hope and Safety in response to the GFWC International Day of Service. The Center serves victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. The newly opened Hope Plaza offers affordable housing units and creates opportunities to build community partnerships and provide employment and services to victims and survivors. We were happy to assemble 80 hygiene kits, then tour the facility, learn about the needs in our community and what CHS offers in emergency sheltering, housing, employment and other services.

Kudos to Michele Mason and her certified pet therapy dog Bailey for providing “paw-sitive vibes” for staff members at Salem Health on March 18th. Salem Health had their first ever petting booth open for 3 hours and 375 staff, patients and guests received puppy love! GFWC Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs

Our February meeting included wearing red for Heart Health Awareness and collecting 100 Dr. Seuss books to donate to the Salem Keizer Head Start Preschool program!

Making a difference in our community by volunteering at the Marion Polk Food Share! Our club team labeled, scooped, bagged and packed family-sized portions of black beans. This was on September 25th in honor of the GFWC 2024 National Day of Service for Food Insecurity and Hunger.

Four times each year club members get together and make 8 dozen Comfort Pillows for breast cancer patients to use after surgery to protect their incision site. This has been a club project for 16 years and over 5,000 pillows have been made!

Club members started off the holiday season with their annual Christmas party. In addition to great food, good friends and lots of fun, they of course included a service project. Members donated supplies and filled 30 Christmas bags with lots of delicious snacks for Tanner House who will distribute them to homeless veterans in the area.

When club meetings resume in September after a brief summer break, our members hit the ground running with multiple projects. Here are two more.

One member also volunteers with Congregations Helping People and we donated several bags of hygiene supplies for them to hand out to women in need.

We also had another FREE giveaway of infant clothing and supplies for teen parents. The Teen Parent Program through our local school district hosted it in the school gym as part of a resource fair for the students.

Our club partners with, Tanner House, a local program that provides low barrier housing and other assistance to homeless veterans. In recognition of Veterans Day, club members gathered some basic kitchen items for the veterans to use with the microwaves in their rooms. Thirty bags were filled and delivered to Tanner House!
