The Board of Directors of Bridges Oregon announces that Chad Ludwig has submitted his resignation as Executive Director, effective June 30, 2026.

On behalf of the Board, we express our sincere gratitude to Chad for his years of leadership, vision, and service to the Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened communities across Oregon.

Chad's work began long before Bridges Oregon was formally established. Through years of advocacy and collaboration with state legislators and community stakeholders, he played a key role in advancing Oregon's first statewide assessment of the needs of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Oregonians. The findings from that effort identified critical gaps in services and laid the foundation for the creation of Bridges Oregon.

As the organization's founder and first Executive Director, Chad guided Bridges Oregon from concept to reality. Under his leadership, the organization secured funding, launched statewide advocacy services, established strong community partnerships, and developed a strategic framework to support continued growth and impact. His commitment to accessibility, equity, and community empowerment has helped position Bridges Oregon as an important resource for Oregonians across the state.

"We are grateful for Chad's dedication and leadership in building Bridges Oregon and advancing its mission," said Chris Estrin, Chair of the Board of Directors. "His efforts have laid a strong foundation for the organization, and we thank him for his service and contributions to the communities we serve."

The Board of Directors is currently focused on supporting a smooth transition period and anticipates interim leadership for approximately the next three months while determining next steps for the Executive Director position. Bridges Oregon remains committed to its mission of improving access, advocacy, and opportunities for Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened individuals across Oregon.

The Board thanks our staff, partners, supporters, and community members for their continued trust and support as we begin this next chapter.

Dear Community Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with you all. I have notified the Board of Directors of my formal resignation from my Executive Director position with Bridges Oregon, effective Tuesday, June 30, 2026. My resignation is primarily driven by the need to transition into a full-time caregiver role for my mother, who now requires increased daily support and care.

It brings me great joy and pride knowing that I was part of the effort to secure legislative funding for Oregon’s first community-based needs assessment (CNA) in 2015. The final report was presented to the Oregon Legislature during the 2017 session, though no implementation funding followed at that time. In response to the identified needs within Oregon’s Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities, Bridges Oregon was formed.

Implementation of the organization began on July 5, 2017. After several years of foundational work and advocacy, Bridges Oregon received its first funding in late 2020 and launched its first advocacy services in early 2021. As I prepare to step into a new chapter, I am proud of the foundation that has been built for the organization’s future, including an established three-year strategic plan and a finalized Fiscal Year 2027 budget currently being prepared for Board review as part of Bridges Oregon’s next phase of growth and sustainability. For me, this journey has spanned nine years—from the earliest advocacy efforts that helped shape the vision for Bridges Oregon to where the organization stands today.

Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I remain deeply grateful to the staff, board members, partners, advocates, legislators, donors, volunteers, and community members who helped build Bridges Oregon into what it is today.

Please stay tuned for additional updates from the Board of Directors in the coming days.

Thank you.

Chad A. Ludwig, MSW, ADAC, CDI
Outgoing Founder and Executive Director

MAY IS NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH

Every child deserves a safe, supportive, and accessible home.

It is reported that approximately 12 Deaf children are currently in Oregon’s foster care system. Too often, Deaf children need placement options that are accessible to their language, communication needs, and culture.

Becoming a resource parent can make a life-changing difference by providing connection, stability, and communication access for Deaf children and youth.

Together, we can help ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive in a safe and accessible environment.
