I must pass on one complaint I heard from some parade participants. Some of you failed to make the mandatory meeting or reach out to see where you needed to line up. While this might seem insignificant to some of you, there are hours and hours of planning this parade from everyone from the parade committee all the way up to Illinois Department of transportation. While we all like to think of this is just our small town, Salem parade, there are a lot of hoops we have to jump through. so just showing up and jumping in where you feel like is neither acceptable or respectful to those people who follow the rules. While we appreciate having all of you in the parade, please try your best next year to either make the meeting or reach out to us to see where you need to be in the parade lineup. The parade positions are predetermined for numerous reasons, including live broadcast on WJBD radio. And when you’re just jumping in when you feel like, it really throws a wrench in all the planning. Again, we loved having you, but please make a better effort next year to find out where you were supposed to be.It was a bit upsetting to some of the people who actually did what they were supposed to. Thanks.

Congratulations to David Shaw for winning the Richard Pollard Memorial Trophy for his beautiful 1929 Pontiac. Thanks to Rod Pollard for choosing it! If you see this car driving around town, take a moment to think in 4 more years, it’s 100 years old.

Thanks to Mike and Max Dye for helping out with a convertible for our Grand Marshal John Boles. After driving him around to pick his favorite float, it was clear we made the right choice by how excited students were to see him.
