Two Giants, One Birthday! 🎂🎂

On this day, we celebrate two of the greatest composers who ever lived:

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685) — The father of Western music. Master of counterpoint, fugue, and everything in between. His music is the foundation upon which all of classical music stands.

Joseph Haydn (1732) — "Papa Haydn," the father of the symphony AND the string quartet. Without him, Mozart and Beethoven would not exist as we know them.

Fun fact: Bach was born on March 21 (Old Style calendar), which converts to March 31 in our modern calendar — the exact same day Haydn was born 47 years later!

Who's your favorite — Bach or Haydn? 👇🏻

Festival Chorale Oregon, a Salem-based civic choir now in its 48th season, seeks a new Conductor/Artistic Director at the retirement of our founder, Dr. Solveig Holmquist.

Philosophically committed to being self-auditioning, the ensemble primarily focuses on performing the major choral/orchestral masterworks, but often explores other repertoire. We look forward to sharing the successful candidate’s artistic vision.

Interested parties may receive additional information about the organization and the audition process by emailing [email protected]. Auditions will be held during the fall of 2027 and spring of 2028, with a formal passing of the baton at the downbeat of the 2028-2029 season.
