Last week, the Oregon Aglink Board gathered at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum in The Dalles for our quarterly board meeting. It was a productive and positive day filled with great discussion, planning, and the important task of selecting our 2026 award recipients.

We were grateful for the opportunity to meet at such a beautiful venue. As the official interpretive center for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, the museum offers an incredible look at the natural, cultural, and agricultural history of the region.

While there, board members made sure to visit the “A Sense of Place” exhibit, which celebrates the history, innovation, and stewardship of former Aglink board member Jeanne Carver. The exhibit highlights Jeanne’s leadership in sustainable ranching and her work to strengthen the American wool industry while caring for the land for future generations.

Thank you to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum for hosting us and for preserving and sharing the stories that connect Oregon’s communities, history, and agricultural heritage.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Rita Doerfler, a longtime supporter of Oregon Aglink and a valued member of Oregon’s agricultural community.

Rita and her family have long been recognized for their dedication to agriculture in the Willamette Valley, where they built a legacy rooted in stewardship, hard work, and community. In 2019, Rita and her husband, Dave, were honored as Oregon Aglink’s Agriculturist(s) of the Year, an award that reflects not only excellence in farming, but also a deep commitment to the people and communities that agriculture sustains.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Doerfler family and all who knew and loved Rita. She will be greatly missed.

Dave & Rita Doerfler were honored with Oregon Aglink's Agriculturist of the Year award at Denim & Diamonds in Salem, Oregon on November 22, 2019.

Yesterday our team was out across Oregon connecting students to real-world agriculture through Adopt a Farmer, and wow, did they cover some ground!

🌲Laura & Stacy spent the day with Tillamook Jr. High at Hampton Lumber Mill, exploring how forestry fuels our everyday lives.

🌾Liz & Anne teamed up with Victor Point 8th graders at Ruddenklau Farms for hands-on ag learning about grass seed, irrigation, soil and more.

🐄 Rebecca was with Victor Point 7th grade at AJ Dairy, diving into dairy production.

🌳 Leah worked with Victor Point 6th graders at Aman Bros Farm, bringing hazelnut farming to life for students.

And back at the quiet office, Mallory kept everything running smoothly and got so much done to support it all! 🙌

These experiences don’t happen without an incredible team effort. Thank you to our educators, hosts, staff, and donors for making agriculture come alive for students across the state!

Yesterday was a pretty awesome day in Southern Oregon at Ashland Middle School! 🙌

Zack Dauenhauer from Dauenhauer Cattle LLC in Ashland spent the day with about 130 sixth graders, sharing how his grass finished beef goes from pasture to places they know like the local Shop’n Kart and even their own school cafeteria!

Zack gave them a behind the scenes look at what ranchers think about every day, including: genetics, minerals, and all the data that goes into raising great cattle.

One of the best moments? When students tried guessing how many farms are family owned. Answers ranged from 10% to 80%, and there were some pretty surprised faces when they learned it is actually about 98%!
