We need volunteers to help our staff due to the influx of animals we have taken in this past week. Laundry, cleaning, doing dishes, mopping kennels, answering phones, running cats to the vet, yard work, cleaning litter boxes, helping with the food pantry, deep cleaning rooms, windows, you name it, we have it to do! There is a volunteer form on our website or you can comment here and we will get back to you quickly! Students needing hours for school, community service, or just time doing a good thing. PLUS, we have adorable animals that will just love the time you spend with them also! Thank you for considering this opportunity.

Attention, residents of Columbiana County! I urgently need your help. Yesterday, I impounded an additional 11 dogs from a home, bringing the total number of impounded animals to 111. They are all very sweet but have suffered severe neglect. We are in need of fosters or adopters for these animals.

We had to start using our outside facilities, and with the heat coming, I will have to use our storage garage with window air conditioners to accommodate them. If you have room or are looking to adopt, please consider coming in to meet some of our current and new residents. They have already been processed and are going to grooming today at Gabby&Gerti's Soapy Paws LLC in New Waterford.

They still need to be spayed and neutered, and we are currently scheduling this process. However, this situation has placed a strain on our budget, and we need your help. If you would like to sponsor a dog for spaying or neutering, please reach out to me at 234-575-7177 or 234-575-1400, and I can provide you with the costs.

If you would like to sponsor vaccinations, here are the costs:
- Rabies vaccination: $12.00
- Bordetella vaccine: $20.00
- DHLPP vaccine: $20.00
- 4DX test: $35.00
- Flea treatment: $17.00 per dose
- Deworming $5.00

If you're feeling especially generous, the total cost for all 11 dogs to receive their vaccinations is as follows:
- Rabies vaccinations: $132.00
- Bordetella vaccines: $220.00
- DHLPP vaccines: $220.00
- 4DX tests: $385.00
- Deworm: $55.00 If you would like to sponsor a bottle of Drontal (50ct), the cost would be $248.00

Please keep in mind that this does not even include the costs for spaying or neutering or medication for Lyme disease and anaplasmosis. Your support would mean a lot to these dogs in need.

I have secured grooming services from Gabby at Gerti's Soapy Paws LLC. They have generously donated their time and supplies to help these neglected animals. There are 11 dogs, and it’s a significant amount of work because they have suffered for too long and are in desperate need of love and attention. Each one is covered in f***s and has urine-stained fur, along with urine scalding on their paws . all of them need their nails trimmed and their ears cleaned .

Please share this with everyone you know—it’s really important! I want to continue our mission, and I strongly believe that if we come together as a community, we can help many more animals who are suffering from abuse and neglect. Let’s work together to support them.

Judgment after judgment, hearing after hearing, with no end in sight. I do not post every call or every seizure; some cases require education, while others necessitate incarceration. In a very short period, I have taken in around a 100 animals, and this incident was just one of the many we respond to daily .

The call came in from multiple agencies and animal rescues, and when I arrived, I could clearly hear barking. My Humane associate, Matt, pointed out that the barking was coming from the side of the home. I knocked, but no one answered, so I continued to the area where the animal was housed. Matt and I were appalled by what we saw; there was barely any area to walk without stepping in some sort of f***s or urine.

This poor pup was found walking in this and his water dish was completely dry. He was very underweight, with a body score of 2.5 as assessed by the veterinarian. He was diagnosed with anaplasmosis and needed to start a medication regimen along with a refeeding program to prevent overeating, which could lead to a twisted stomach.

Matt and I initially gave the dog very little water, but we gradually increased the amount as the day progressed. It was clear that this animal had been neglected. He is now safe with us at the Columbiana County Humane Society, along with the other animals from the home, following a hearing in court today.

No animal deserves to be treated this way, and if I have to hold every offender accountable, I will do so to the best of my ability .

I'd like to say thank you to my associate, Matt, for his help; he has become an invaluable asset to our humane society and the humane investigations department.
And thank you to all of you who made the call, you have saved another animal in need of help.

I received a call from the Wellsville Police Department at 11:13 AM regarding an ongoing issue with local residents related to the proper care and treatment of animals trapped inside a home that was, to say the least, in less than ideal conditions. I had multiple calls today but was still able to arrive around 2:30 PM. When I arrived, Deputy Adkins was already on the scene due to the presence of multiple animals in the home. After about six minutes, Officer Rodger arrived and asked if we needed assistance.

Deputy Adkins and I were able to enter the home with permission from one of the residents. The house was in very poor shape, with multiple piles of f***s and urine stains throughout. The smell was overwhelming, making it very difficult to breathe. Deputy Adkins began to choke and had to exit the area. After just under two minutes, I also had to step outside for fresh air as I began to choke as well.

In my career, I have visited many homes like this, and it never gets easier. When people ask me which area has worse animal cruelty—Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana—I honestly believe they all have too much. Anyone who cares to can go online and discover a concerning amount of neglect and irresponsible ownership.

I put together a short video to provide a glimpse into a day in the life of animal rescue from the perspective of the officers and deputies involved.

If you can, please consider donating to the Columbiana County Humane Society to help me continue this mission. If you don't have any funds available, I would greatly appreciate it if you could volunteer at the shelter by walking dogs, cleaning the cat rooms, or helping in any other way. I understand that times are tough, but any contribution—whether financial or through your time—is incredibly valuable. Thank you for your support!

Working together to rescue animals in need is always a rewarding experience. Today, I had the privilege of collaborating with a colleague who has a strong work ethic and a passion for animal rescue. I received a call for assistance from the Columbiana County Dog Pound. Deputy Adkins was dispatched to an address in Rogers, Ohio, where she quickly recognized that the situation involved severe neglect. She contacted me to discuss the urgent need to remove the animals for their health and safety. Fortunately, I was only 18 minutes away from her location.

Deputy Adkins removed all four puppies before my arrival due to safety concerns. When I arrived, we entered the area where the animals were housed. The floor squished beneath our feet with every step, and the smell was overwhelming. These poor animals were living in complete filth. To make matters worse, there were two puppies that had just been born and had not yet opened their eyes. This situation is completely unacceptable. The case is currently under investigation, and no owners have been charged at this time. The pictures you will see are just one example of the conditions to which we are called daily.

It takes a collective effort to impound animals. The Deputy Warden is responsible for taking the animals, and then the kennel workers care for them. Next, the adoption coordinator assesses their temperament and adoptability. Meanwhile, the financial planner manages the costs for veterinary care and daily expenses. This is no small task, and I applaud the efforts of the Columbiana County Dog Pound. Today, they saved four more puppies from a very unsanitary and unhealthy environment.
