Easley American Legion Post 128 in Salem IL. of 2016, our Post purchased the old Depot building on the east side of Salem. It is on the Historic Registry and at one time was a working depot for the Union Pacific railroad. We actually have a member who worked out of the building as a young railroader. Years later it was purchased by a businessman and turned into an upscale restaurant and lounge. Wh
en the legion purchased the building, it looked and still looks just the same as it did as an upscale restaurant/lounge. We are proud of this building and it is open to the public to enjoy as well. We at the Legion are proud of the history of the building as well as the history of our Post. If you went to college on the GI BIll, you should know that the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 (GI Bill) was drafted right here in Salem IL and the Legion still has the table it was done on. It was signed into law by President Roosevelt. So as I mentioned, please stop by the Legion and absorb some Salem History!
