I hope everyone won’t be upset if I use some of their donated supplies to make hospital masks for the current pandemic.
I will be using some cottons, elastic and fleece to make washable reusable masks.

I have not had much time this year to make the quilts due to my tomato business expanding rapidly. Once I get a handle on that and start to feel less overwhelmed I will be right back at it. I have been able to get a few finished for individual requests so if you do have someone in need please just message me on here.

All these quilts are made possible by the generous donations of materials and monetary donations. Without your support I would not be able to make these wonderful gifts for our local residents and I appreciate you all so much!

These we’ll be so well liked on the quilts.

For the most recent fundraiser I was able to raise $370 through Facebook donations and those sent to my address personally.
I wanted to thank my generous supporters and as you know I will update everyone on how I use the donations in the next few weeks.

Thought I would share a thank you I received from a patients family.
After all if it weren’t for ALL OF YOU; who so generously donated fabric, ribbons, do-dads and monetary donations; this wouldn’t have been possible!
They had called to ask if they could get a replacement because their mother used it frequently enough that the strings that laced through had come off. They told me how it not only keeps her occupied during the day but that when they visit they do the different things on the quilt with her.
It actually made me quite teary-eyed to know that these little patches make such a difference.

This is an up to date list of the items I could use most for this years fidget quilts.

Major priority- I only have enough for 10 quilts:

FABRIC BELTS or
BOOKBAG STRAPS W/ BUCKLES

1” - 2” ribbons for loops. (Please no wired or paper ribbons must be able to be sewn and washed)

Tiny items for clear pouch square (please see post detailing these items)

XXL BUTTONS those that could not be put in someone’s mouth

Suede

Denim, Duck, or heavy weight fabric (used to make straps to attach to wheelchair arms to keep from falling)

Costume necklaces where the beads are attached to the string (beads will not fall off if string is cut)

Brass or plated steel O-rings 1 1/2”-2”

Medium Priority have enough for about 30 quilts:
Sequin flip
Corduroy (deep ridges are best)
Satin or silks
Lace material (not trim I have quite a bit of trim currently)

Low Priority (I have enough to make at least 30 quilts):
Faux fur
Terry cloth
Minky or super soft furry texture
1/4”- 1/2” ribbons
Wide lace material

Items I will always accept are buttons, lace trim, buckles, satin or silk handkerchiefs or pocket squares, fleece, flannel,

I do not currently need lightweight cotton unless you are willing to cut them into the 5 1/2” squares to save me the time.

PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS!
Before you start the 2019 clutter purge remember that I can always use game pieces, Barbie shoes, duplicate or unused shopkins, beads, bingo chips, scrabble letters, shaped buttons, small plastic animals, or perler beads.
These will go into the clear activity squares that are on the special fidget quilts made for residents that tend to chew or bite things off.
I go through these items very quickly as each square gets 20-30 items that are interesting to interact with.
The only requirement is that it is washer and dryer safe, somewhat thin so it can be moved around inside the pouch. If you are able to sort them that’s great if not just throw it all on a ziploc.

Helping those with dementia and those that care for them

A fidget quilt is an activity blanket that has several different objects attached to it. These lap sized blankets help those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias to stimulate and keep them focused on an activity and thereby reduce emotional escalation and agitation. They are intended to sooth and alleviate stress, while stimulating memory and awareness. Sensory stimulation for those who are struggling with dementia can provide a calming effect. They have also been shown to help seniors sleep better.

Some of the different embellishments are things that the elderly person can perform from muscle memory, like buttons and zippers. Some are meant to engage them, like weaving shoe laces. There are many textured materials like faux fur, corduroy or velvet that can be stroked or petted.

I have made it my charitable cause to make and distribute these quilts to area care facilities free of charge. I rely on generous donations of funding and materials. This year I was able to acquire the resources to make 30 blankets, I hope to keep increasing that amount each year.
