Hey bike people! SATA has clearance from Silver Falls to build a jump line trail accessed by the Newt Loop--all we have to do is raise the money! For starters, it would be a huge help to us if you would fill out this survey and let us know if a jump line trail is something you would like to see. Please feel free to share the link to the survey to all your biking friends, and especially anyone you know with an interest in adaptive bikes.

SATA has an opportunity to write grants and seek other funds to finance the construction of a mountain bike jump trail in 2027. The trail would be accessed from the Silver Falls Newt Loop and feature beginner to intermediate jumps, optimized to be available for all riders including those on adaptive...

The Salamander Crew joined up with SATA today for some much-needed brushing. We were able to complete all of the lower section of Howard Creek and part of the upper. We are still on Hoot-Owl restrictions, all machines off by 1:00 pm. That's just fine-- five hours of power brushing is enough for anyone and we ran out of gas, batteries and muscle right at 1:00. We retired to the Big Leaf cafe to enjoy a cold b**r and a warm fire. In spite of a steady drizzle, not such a ruff day.

Catamount riders may have noticed a problem with the railing on the lowest bridge. What actually happened is that the long plank that is holding the railing post finally rotted out and broke. Believe it or not, these bridges are 10 years old now, so we will likely be replacing more planks soon. The steel beams should outlast us all.

Heads up! This Saturday, March 28th you might want to avoid Silver Falls. The park is hosting a 20-mile hiking event called Mammoth March, where 1100 hikers will flood the trails all over the park. Trails involved include parts of the canyon, north Perimeter, Rackett Ridge, Buck Mountain, Catamount, 214 trail and others. If you are familiar with the Newt Loop drop box features, there was a ride-around tree at the top of the drops. The storm knocked down the tree and left a giant crater and up-ended root ball. Today we cut it and the stump stood up and filled the crater. The ride-around is back, this time with a podium in the middle!

Many thanks to this clean-up crew! Now that the logs are removed from Silver Falls backcountry trails, they are much more pleasant to use with large limbs and debris thrown off.
And here is an important notice to trail users: Private property logging will be taking place using the lower few miles of Lookout Mountain road out of 214 TH for the next few months. Please try to use trails instead of the road if at all possible, for everyone's safety.
