🎩Our program involved a typical Toastmasters meeting presented by members of local Toastmasters clubs. The MC was Mike Long. Mike is a local Toastmasters member and a former Rotarian. He led the group a Crow exercise. Rene Brouse, Sherwood Rotarian, then spoke about the potential of a person being a member of both Rotary and Toastmasters. Mike then called upon “volunteers” Marcus Walker and John Whitney who were asked to speak for a minute, or so, on a topic Mike gave them.

Teri Scott was one of our summer speakers from the B-17 Alliance. She was accompanied by her spouse Jason Scott. The B-17 Alliance is a nonprofit is restoring the B-17, “Lacey Lady” as part of a World War II Education Center.
The Lacey Lady was purchased in 1947 by Art Lacey on a $5 bet and brought to Milwaukie, Oregon where he made it the
“roof” of his gas station. When the gas station closed, Jason
convinced the heirs to restore the plane to honor the American
spirit.
The plane was transported to Salem in 2014 where it is being worked on to restore it to fly. It will be part of the Alliance’s WWII Education Center.
The Alliance sponsors a veterans coffee on the third Thursday of each month. They also have a traveling exhibit. For more information or to volunteer, visit their website at www.B17Alliance.com.

Justin Kidd was our presenter this week and is the Marion County Justice of the Peace. He was appointed to the position in 2021. He served at the Department of Justice prior to his appointment. The Justice Court’s jurisdiction includes cases not more than $10,000, misdemeanors, landlord-tenant cases, and weddings.
Justice Courts improve access to justice by providing speedy hearings, low fees, ease of navigation, and more time to tailor remedies. Justin has started an online ex-parte evening docket to make it easier for people who have day jobs.
Patti Rogers was also presented her PHF+5 pin. The pin is in recognition of having donated $6000 to the Rotary International Foundation.

At last week’s meeting Chuck Packard and Annie Christianson gave our program on the Oregon Outdoor Education Center (OOEC). OOEC is supported by the Zack Packard Memorial Foundation. Zack was Chuck’s son who passed in 2017.
The OOEC was purchased and started in 2024. The facility, located in West Salem, has a long history beginning with Ivan Stewart who was a Rotarian with Salem Rotary (the downtown club). It has also been a long-time 4H Club center.
Our previous president Paul also received his Paul Harris Pen.
