The landscape for natural gas in Oregon is changing quickly, and those changes will have a direct impact on how our members design, price and sell new homes. This is why this month's HBA Dinner is one you won't want to miss.
On Tuesday, February 10th, NW Natural President Kim Rush will walk us through what she sees ahead for natural gas in Oregon, with a focus on how policy decision at the local and state level could reshape the choices available to home builders and home buyers.
Communities around the state are already exploring ways to limit or discourage the use of gas in new construction. Cities like Ashland and Bend are considering “social impact fees” tied to gas appliances that could add thousands of dollars to the cost of including gas appliances in a new home. For builders, that kind of added cost changes the math on product choices, marketing, and ultimately, housing affordability. Kim will provide an insider’s view of these efforts, what is driving them, and how they may evolve over the next few years.
