Friends of Allegany State Park Friends of Allegany State Park Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 Not-For-Profit Corporation and is a NYS Chartered Friends Group with Allegany State Park.

The Friends of Allegany State Park is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to work with the state of New York to promote, preserve, and maintain Allegany State Park. The park has been enjoyed by people of all ages for almost 100 years. The Friends pursue this mission by serving as ambassadors and advocates for the park and the wider community. This is accomplished by recruiting friends and volunteers and by developing corporate and community partners. The Friends strive to network with the talent, knowledge, and enthusiasm that is needed to keep the park relevant and vital. The Friends will strive to preserve, maintain, and interpret the historic character and natural beauty of the park. This just in from the Friends of Allegany State Park Calendar Fund Drive Jim Schwartzmyer:

Here are our four cover photo winners for the calendar photo contest. These were based on total likes by those that joined.
1. Winter - Mark Panek with a photo of the iconic rock.
2. Spring - Brian Schlifke with a photo of Science Lake.
3. Summer - Glenn Dolata with a photo of Red House Lake
4. Fall - Haley Taylor Glasgow with a cabin photo from the Quaker side.

The rest of the winners will be announced Monday or Tuesday. Calendar information will follow soon. Thank you all for participating.

Updated Information:

Due to increased interest in this event, some details have changed. Please note this event will now be held at the Beehunter Picnic Pavilion on the 19th, 21st, and 23rd.

This program will include a one mile walk on a mixed-terrain path with limited visibility. Please wear clothing and footwear appropriate for being in the woods and on an uneven path.

Please plan to arrive at the Beehunter Picnic Pavillion 15 to 30 minutes before the program time; the program will begin promptly at 7:35 pm.

The weekend tours of the Summit Fire Tower and Red House Sawmill have ended and will resume the second weekend in May 2027.

The ASP Historical Society’s Heritage Scavenger Hunt continues and the drawing for the $200 prize will be on Nov 19th at their monthly meeting at 1 pm. More details to follow.

Last weekend another honored guest joined Kevin Powell at the Red House Sawmill tour.
Paul Bachman was a boiler man among many of his duties at the Red House Sawmill.
His likeness is the last of three full-sized cut-outs featured in front of the mill’s boiler.
Paul’s interview from 2019 can be found on YouTube under “Legends of the Mill”.
He was very helpful in teaching us about the mill and it’s operation and provided some great photos of the mill back in it’s heyday.
