The Ste. Genevieve Militia held their Spring Encampment Saturday, April 11th, on the grounds of the Centre for French Colonial Life. We enjoyed the many visitors, especially the families who brought their children to spend some time learning about our colonial history. Our members enjoy making history fun for the young and old. We were thrilled to have visitors from as far away as South Dakota and Idaho. One of the highlights of the day was the awarding of our first Militia scholarship to Ste. Genevieve High School senior, Brenden Sexton.
If you weren't able to join us for the spring encampment, we will be doing a fall encampment on Saturday, Oct. 11th on the grounds of the Centre for French Colonial Life.
The Ste. Genevieve Militia will also be participating in the May 30th and 31st Ste. Genevieve 250th celebration, June 13th French Festival, July 4th celebration on Kaskaskia Island, August 8th for the first day of Jour de Fete, December 8th Holiday Christmas Festival parade, and as the honor guard for the February 6, 2027 King's Ball.

Congratulations to Brenden Sexton, a senior at Ste. Genevieve Public High School who became the inaugural recipient of the Ste. Genevieve Militia Scholarship. Sexton plans to attend SEMO University where he will major in history. This scholarship fund was made possible due to a generous donation from militia member, Harry Croy. Congratulation Brenden and we wish you much success in your college career.

Please remember the American Revolutionary War veterans such as Israel Dodge, Jean Baptiste deLaffont, Jacques Missé, and Larned Clark buried in Memorial Cemetery on this Veterans Day. Remember also all those who fought at the Battle of Fort San Carlos, those were members of the Ste. Genevieve Milice, and those Revolutionary War veterans who aided George Rogers Clark in his conquest of Vincennes, and Revolutionary War veterans from the East who settled in Ste. Genevieve County.

The Ste. Genevieve Colonial Militia held their fall muster October 11th on the grounds of the Centre for French Colonial Life. Over 150 visitors came through the camp and interacted with militia members. There, they learned about the life during the colonial French and Spanish militia era. Visitors were able to interact with various members of the camp demonstrating woodworking, yarn spinning, children's games, rag doll making, fire starting, period money, equipment, cooking, and French military drill. During the day, our recently department camp member, Pete Zaleska, was honored with a memorial service which included prayers and a firing salute. God speed Pete. The weather made for a beautiful day. The camp members enjoyed interacting with the visitors, especially the kids, in the telling of Ste. Genevieve's wonderful history.
