Check out this Youtube video of the Missouri Society Sons of the American Revolution 2026 Remembrance Day. Five new SAR Patriots buried in Memorial Cemetery were honored: François LeClerc, Jean Baptiste Pratte, Hypolite Robert, Louis Bolduc, and Pierre Roi. The ceremony included the Ste. Genevieve Militia, Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve, and French Colonial America.

The Ste. Genevieve Militia participated in Ste. Genevieve's French Festival this past Saturday. A rain that began just before the opening ceremony dampened the crowd and the black powder in our flintlocks. The Militia participated in the opening ceremony by firing a volley in honor of Ste. Genevieve's King and Queen. They then led the promenade back to Lion's Club Park. A number of hearty souls toured the camp where they learn how to fire a cannon, spin wool into yarn, and play games for adults and children. The rain cleared in time to hear Dennis Stroughmatt play his upper Louisiana fiddle music songs. The evening was capped off with a French dance as did many celebrations during Ste. Genevieve's colonial period.

The Ste. Genevieve Militia participated as an honor guard for the 4th annual Sons of the American Revolution Remembrance Day. Jean Baptiste Pratte, François LeClerc, Hypolite Robert, Louis Bolduc, and Pierre Roi were recognized as American Revolutionary War patriots this year. Both the Militia and the SAR Color Guard fired salutes in memory of these five and other patriots buried in the Memorial Cemetery. Militia member Bob Mueller gave a short talk on Why We Remember. After the cemetery ceremony, all marched down to the François Vallé II house on S. Gabouri where the Commemoration Committee for the Battle of Fort San Carlos held a ceremony to honor those Ste. Genevieve and St. Louis militia that successfully defended St. Louis. Militia Member and Director of the Center for French Colonial Life gave a talk about François Vallé II who was at the battle and his house that still exists. Roses were placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution for the twenty-two persons who died during the battle. Both ceremonies were a poignant reminder of the sacrifices American Revolutionary patriots endured to ensure the freedom we enjoy today. At the end of the event, the Militia had a drawing for a red, white, and blue quilt donated by Delores Wurmb of the Festus Scraps and Patched Guilt Club. Garry Pirck of the SAR was the winner. The Ste. Genevieve Militia held their Spring Encampment Saturday, April 11th, on the grounds of the Centre for French Colonial Life. We enjoyed the many visitors, especially the families who brought their children to spend some time learning about our colonial history. Our members enjoy making history fun for the young and old. We were thrilled to have visitors from as far away as South Dakota and Idaho. One of the highlights of the day was the awarding of our first Militia scholarship to Ste. Genevieve High School senior, Brenden Sexton.
If you weren't able to join us for the spring encampment, we will be doing a fall encampment on Saturday, Oct. 11th on the grounds of the Centre for French Colonial Life.
The Ste. Genevieve Militia will also be participating in the May 30th and 31st Ste. Genevieve 250th celebration, June 13th French Festival, July 4th celebration on Kaskaskia Island, August 8th for the first day of Jour de Fete, December 8th Holiday Christmas Festival parade, and as the honor guard for the February 6, 2027 King's Ball.

Congratulations to Brenden Sexton, a senior at Ste. Genevieve Public High School who became the inaugural recipient of the Ste. Genevieve Militia Scholarship. Sexton plans to attend SEMO University where he will major in history. This scholarship fund was made possible due to a generous donation from militia member, Harry Croy. Congratulation Brenden and we wish you much success in your college career.
