☀️ Want to get in on the fun? Try a Doggie Day Out (DDO)! 🎒🐾

What is it, you ask? It's the ultimate field trip! You get to take a shelter dog out for an adventure away from their kennel for the day. You decide where to go and how long you’ll have them out.

Whether you want to go for a hike, grab a pup cup, or just relax in a quiet park, shelter staff and volunteers will help match you with the perfect dog for your plans!

🗺️ How it Works in 4 Easy Steps:
1. 📝 Sign Up: Fill out a quick volunteer application if you don't already have one on file.

2. 🎒 Gear Up: Stop by the DDO cabinet in the main shelter hallway to grab a harness, leash, and a goodie backpack packed with essentials for your adventure!

3. 📱 Get Scanned: Hit the front desk to get a special QR code attached to the dog's harness. If anyone asks about your handsome companion, they can scan it to instantly see the dog's online bio and pictures!

4. 🚗 Hit the Road: Go have fun! You might just play a direct role in finding them their forever home. 🏡❤️

🚨 Keep Your Pups Safe This July 4th: National ID Your Pet Day Event! 🚨
Did you know that the July 4th holiday is the time of year when the most pets go missing? Loud fireworks can turn even the calmest dog into a terrified escape artist.

Right now, many lost dogs in the Golden Isles end up at Glynn County Animal Services without any form of ID. This creates a heartbreaking ripple effect: pets without IDs must be held for a mandatory stray period, taking up space in a shelter that is already completely at capacity. When those kennels fill up, the dogs who have been there the longest are put at immediate risk to make room for new arrivals.

We want to help your dog skip the shelter entirely and get back to you immediately if they ever get lost—keeping those critical kennel spaces open for the dogs who need them most!

We’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to our friends at Southern Soul Barbeque for hosting our June Dine & Donate and to all of those who came out to enjoy a delicious meal and meet the adorable adoptable dogs from Glynn County Animal Services!🐾

To say it was a success would be a huge understatement- we raised a combined total of over $1900 from donations, tshirt sales, hotdogs corndogs and sausage sold all day, and the 10% of sales from 5-8pm!!! 🌭

WOW!!! 🤩

We’re so grateful for this support to allow us to continue helping the shelter cats and dogs! 🐈 🐶

🐾 Who Helps Animals in Glynn County? Understanding the Different Roles. 🐾

We often get questions from animal lovers asking about the differences between the ASPCA, the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia, Glynn County Animal Services, and even our organization, Grateful Cats/Canines Allies & Supporters ("GCAS").

The short answer? All of these organizations help animals, but they do so in very different ways.

❤️ American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ("ASPCA")

The ASPCA is a national animal welfare organization. Their work includes advocacy, disaster response, grants, education, cruelty prevention initiatives, and support for shelters and rescues throughout the country.

When you donate to the ASPCA, your donation supports programs on a national scale and may benefit animals anywhere in the United States.

🏡 Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia (HSSCG)

The Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia is a local, private nonprofit organization with paid staff. As a closed intake private facility, they determine which animals they will accept into their programs and are not required to take in animals from the public or from local animal control agencies.

While they are located here in Glynn County, they may assist animals from a variety of locations depending on their programs, available space, and organizational priorities.

🐶🐱 Glynn County Animal Services ("the shelter")

It is the county animal shelter and animal control agency.

Unlike private organizations, the shelter has a public safety role in our community and is responsible for responding to animal-related issues throughout Glynn County. The shelter must take in stray animals, injured animals, cruelty and neglect cases, animals involved in law enforcement investigations, and many other animals that have nowhere else to go.

The shelter operates on county funding, but those funds do not cover every need that arises. Medical emergencies, specialty surgeries, transport opportunities, enrichment, behavioral support, and other lifesaving programs often require additional resources beyond the county budget.

🤝 Where Grateful Cats/Canines Allies & Supporters ("GCAS") Fits In

GCAS is a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit created specifically to support the dogs and cats at Glynn County Animal Services.

We are an all-volunteer organization with zero paid staff. Every dollar donated to GCAS goes toward helping shelter animals through medical care, transport opportunities, supplies, enrichment, community programs, and shelter improvements that would otherwise go unfunded.

Since our founding, supporters like you have helped us provide tens of thousands of dollars in medical care and lifesaving assistance for the animals at the shelter.

❤️ The Bottom Line

There is no wrong way to help animals.

Whether you support the ASPCA, HSSCG, Glynn County Animal Services, GCAS, breed-specific rescues, wildlife organizations, or another animal welfare group, you are making a difference.

We simply believe it's important for donors to understand how each organization operates so they can decide where their contributions will have the impact they hope to make.

💔 Seniors... 🐾
If you're anything like me, it absolutely kills you to see older dogs in the shelter. I hate for ANY dog to be at the shelter, but it really crushes me when they are up in years and stuck in a kennel.

🏡 Some maybe once had a family who loved them. Maybe they knew the giggles of a child, remember the peaceful comfort of a restful night's sleep on a soft bed, or know the smell of a delicious family meal being cooked in the kitchen...

⛓️ Or maybe they have never truly known love. Maybe they spent their entire lives outside on a heavy chain or in a dirty old doghouse—without vet care, socialization, or human contact. No toys, no belly rubs, no comfort.

✨ Whatever their past, we CAN change their future.
We can get them out of the shelter and into a loving home. Whether that is a temporary foster home or a permanent adopter, either is a massive, life-changing step up from a shelter kennel.
