This summer, six Eckerd College students received prestigious experiential internships at the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)—studying topics such as type 2 diabetes, autism, familial dysautonomia, Friedreich’s ataxia and Sanfilippo syndrome.

The College began sending summer interns to MGH in 2010, and nearly two decades later, 124 Eckerd students have had the opportunity to conduct medical research at one of the nation’s leading hospitals.

As President Annarelli prepares to retire on June 30, 2027, he will conclude an extraordinary 37 years of service to the College. As Eckerd College prepares for this transition, the College is undertaking a search for a new president who will lead Eckerd into its next chapter and continue its commitment to providing an exceptional and a transformational educational experience. ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd softball team will host their annual showcase camps as announced by head coach Michelle Frew. This fall, there will be two separate events to choose from. The dates are Saturday, September 19 and Saturday, September 26.

Trustees Darius Keblinskas ’93 and Greg Mino ’93 won first place in their division in the 117th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, with a speedy time of 2 days, 5 hours and 7 minutes—9 minutes ahead of the 2nd place boat! The 333 mile race spans the length of Lake Michigan, with this year’s race challenging all 250 teams with dramatic windshifts, heavy rain and a wide spectrum of sailing conditions.

As members of the Eckerd College Search and Rescue (EC-SAR) team and roommates at Eckerd, Dar and Greg forged a bond that has crossed over into their sailing careers—racing together since 2004, they have participated in more than 15 Mackinac races, with six of them completed on Dar’s boat, the “NV,” named after his late mother.

In other Eckerd connections, crew member Rob Wetmore is married to the College’s chief of staff, Anne Wetmore ’94. Another member of the crew, Carter Harm, is part of the University of Wisconsin sailing team and visits Eckerd annually during winter training.
