MEOW Now, a Program of Friends of Strays

MEOW Now, a Program of Friends of Strays MEOW Now, a program of Friend of Strays, provides TNVR services in Pinellas County. MEOW Now is a program of Friends of Strays Animal Shelter.
(1)

This program's mission is to humanely reduce the free-roaming cat population in Pinellas County by providing targeted Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return, caregiver support, and advocacy. TNVR stands for Trap – Neuter – Vaccinate – Return. TNVR has been shown to be the most humane, most efficient, and least costly method of stabilizing community cat populations. Community cats are humanely trapped, spaye

d or neutered, vaccinated against rabies, and returned to their colonies to live out their lives. MEOW Now believes that TNVR programs only work when cat colonies are managed, with registered colony caretakers who ensure the cats have adequate food and shelter, and who monitor the health of the cats.

Have you ever heard of the vacuum effect? This is something that occurs when an animal population is taken away from their home range. While it temporarily stops the animal population, it opens up a new space for more animals to come in. This is why TNVR is so effective for outdoor community cats as it allows them to live in the area they are from without reproducing. For more information check out the alley cats article about the vacuum effect!

💙💚Seeking: Community Cats! 💚💙

Do you or someone you know have a good working relationship with the neighborhood cats?

Help these cats live better lives, one where they're not on the lookout to create more cats! Our trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) program, MEOW Now, helps these cats stop reproducing humanely. You trap them, bring them to us on Sundays and Mondays, and return them back to where they live once they've been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped!

🚨 Don't forget to mark your calendar! 🚨 If you've ever thought about being a foster home, this event is for you. Attend Friends of Strays Animal Shelter “Litter and Learn” fostering open house. We will have some of our current fosters there to talk about their experiences and have stations set up where you can learn about some of our biggest needs in fostering, especially during kitten season. We depend on our foster homes to help us save lives! This event is free to attend, but we would be grateful for donations of supplies from our kitten/puppy wishlist (list below). If you bring an item from the list, you’ll get a ticket for our raffle basket!
We will have mimosas and light snacks to share, too!

Kitten season is in full session!
Found a kitten outside and not sure what to do? The first action you should take is... STOP!
Unless the kittens are clearly injured or in a dangerous spot, it is important to not move them as they have the best chance of survival with mom. 🐾 Trapping trick: trap training 🐾
Some cats tend to be a little wary of traps at first. One way to get them more comfortable is by feeding them exclusively in the trap for one to two weeks. When doing this you can zip tip the traps open, so the cat is able to enter and exit freely. Once the cat is comfortable and you are ready to trap the cat cut the zip ties and set the trap!
