Meet Rui Farias, Executive Director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History 🏛️

Rui has spent most of his life in St. Pete, from teaching Florida history at St. Petersburg High School to now leading the oldest museum in Pinellas County, founded back in 1922. That deep connection to the city’s past is what’s driving one of the most ambitious projects in downtown’s future: an 11,000-square-foot museum expansion.

The addition brings a new entrance at the foot of the Pier, a flagship “Explore Florida” exhibit with 14 interactive chapters (including a VR experience recreating the world’s first commercial airline flight, from 1914!✈️), and the Flight Deck, a rooftop event space with panoramic views of the Pier District and Tampa Bay.

“Our history is just bizarre, and there are so many cool stories that people don’t know about,” Rui says.

Downtown Partnership members get 10% off booking the museum’s event spaces, even before the Flight Deck opens. Learn more at historystpete.org 🔗
