One conversation. One mentor. One project. Sometimes that’s all it takes to change a young person’s perspective. 💙🌊🎨

Meet Sanaia, one of the incredible young artists from our previous Artivism program.

Using reclaimed plastic bags and recycled materials collected during environmental activities, Sanaia transformed pollution into a powerful piece of art. But when we asked her what made the biggest impact, it wasn’t the artwork.

It was how she felt.

That is exactly the environment we’re creating with Artivism: Vision & Voice.

This isn’t just another after-school program.

It’s a place where middle school students can explore Tampa Bay, create art from recovered materials, meet scientists, artists, educators, and environmental professionals, discover future career paths, build confidence, and realize that their voice matters.

If you’re the parent of a middle school student who loves nature, art, science, or simply needs a place to belong and grow, we’d love to have them join us this fall.

Registration is now open, and spots are filling!

We’re also looking for artists, scientists, environmental professionals, educators, guest speakers, mentors, volunteers, and community partners who want to help inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.

What happens when young people experience pollution firsthand—and are challenged to turn what they discover into something powerful?

Zulay participated in last year’s City of St. Petersburg-sponsored Artivism program, where she joined Water Warrior Alliance for a Watergoat cleanup at Bartlett Park. While exploring Salt Creek, she noticed paint chips peeling from a pipe over the bridge. Salt Creek flows into Lake Maggiore, a vital part of our local ecosystem and home to plenty of alligators.

Zulay transformed what she saw into art.

She created an upcycled alligator using recycled paper, plastic, sea glass, soda can tabs and even the paint chips she collected from the site. Her artwork connected the pollution she witnessed with the wildlife and waterways affected by it.

This is what Artivism: Vision to Voice is all about: giving young people real environmental experiences and helping them turn those experiences into art, stories and action.

This fall, students will explore local waterways, participate in hands-on environmental activities, create with recovered and upcycled materials, build confidence and learn how their creativity can inspire change.

They won’t just make art. They’ll create art with a story, a purpose and a voice.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN: ARTIVISM: VISION & VOICE

Students don’t just create art—they create art inspired by real experiences.

ARTIVISM: Vision & Voice is a free semester-long Environmental Arts & Community Leadership Program presented by Water Warrior Alliance and funded by the City of St. Petersburg.

Participants will explore Tampa Bay through an eco tour, fishing and marine science experience, and Watergoat cleanup, then transform those experiences into Gyotaku prints, environmental art, collaborative sculptures, digital storytelling, and professional portfolios.

Students will also meet artists, marine professionals, designers, engineers, educators, and conservation leaders while learning about future career pathways and how to confidently present and showcase their work.

The program concludes with the ARTIVISM: Vision & Voice Giving Tuesday Youth Art Showcase.

Our annual St. Pete Ocean Sweep Trash Collection Tournament is back on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and we want YOU on the cleanup crew!
Partnered with the City of St. Petersburg!
Grab some friends, build a team, and compete with others across Tampa Bay to see who can collect the most marine debris while helping protect our waterways. It’s a day full of community, friendly competition, prizes, and ocean impact.

Last Saturday, March 7th, our community came together for another WaterGoat cleanup in St. Petersburg! 💙🌊

Volunteers helped remove debris from the water while our Roots & Shoots / Artivism crew transformed recycled materials into colorful works of art. It was the perfect mix of environmental action and creative expression—showing how caring for our waterways can also inspire creativity.

Every bag of trash removed makes a difference for wildlife, our community, and the health of St. Pete. And every brushstroke reminds us that protecting the ocean can be both meaningful and fun.

It’s that time again students! 🎨Artivism: Vision to Voice is back on Thursday, February 19th! 🎨 Come join us at the Museum of Fine Arts for a night of art, history, and community. This docent-led visit is meant to engage the middle school students of St. Petersburg in learning about civic identity, art history, and environmental storytelling while also getting them inspired for a year of other fun-filled creative events. ‼️Event is free but registration is required! 🎨For more event details and for registration, visit our website waterwarrioralliance.org/artivism or visit the link in our bio!
