St. Petersburg officials are upgrading crosswalks near St. Pete High School after a student was hit by a car and critically injured in May.

FYI - Update on traffic/crosswalk improvements on 9th Ave N. at St Petersburg High School. The student who was hit in the crosswalk back in May continues to recover and plans to attend the Fall semester.

The City of St. Petersburg, Florida has done extensive tree trimming on 9th Ave N from 24th St N. to 28th St. N. to improve visibility. The street crosswalks at 25th and 27th have been repainted. New, more prominent crosswalk signs with additional activated blinking lights on the poles will be installed before school commences in August.

Radar Speed Signs may also be added on 9th Ave N "at some point" but that is still being reviewed. North Kenwood Neighborhood Association

FYI - Pedestrian struck by car (at full speed) at corner of 9th Ave N @ 25th St N this morning at approximately 9:15am. Status of pedestrian is unknown at the moment. Driver remained at the scene, and the investigation is still ongoing.

This is the 2nd serious vehicle accident on this corner in the past 48 hours, and the 4th or 5th accident in the past 6+ months.

There is a pedestrian crossing signal on this corner that when flashing, is ignored 50% of the time. Average speed on 9th Ave N. exceeds 45 - 50mph.

Any suggestions as to what we can do as a neighborhood to ask Police/DOT to add RoadSafe warning systems to aid in slowing traffic in this critical intersection? Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association North Kenwood Neighborhood Association
