A local dance music institution celebrating 15 years this Saturday!

You may have heard, but our party is celebrating 15 years this Saturday.

This is what over a decade and a half of pure dedication to the music looks like. It’s no easy task to showcase the deeper sides of dance music here in Florida — with the bulk of that time spent in St. Pete — but we’ve gone against the grain and never wavered.

From disco originals, house pioneers, and techno innovators to eclectic downtempo explorers and even a couple of the forefathers of club dancing styles themselves representing NYC, Chicago, Detroit, the UK, Atlanta, and, of course, Florida. We are grateful to every single one of them for trusting in and helping us bring this culture to our humble city — as well as all the regional and local DJs that have warmed up the dance floor for us.

Unfortunately some are no longer with us, except in spirit, but their contributions are eternally etched into this culture and our collective memory, with shared moments we’ll cherish forever.

It really sucks we have to do this, but… at some point last weekend, a plaster sea turtle (not pictured) was stolen from our bathroom.

The studio gets its eccentricity and character from a mixture of personal items, gifts, and thrifted or salvaged finds. Unfortunately, whatever individual took this turtle, you have stolen a personal piece with a lot of history that we would like back, no questions asked.

“I got it at the turtle sanctuary on the East Coast, Lauderdale area, 20 years ago.”

An iguana was left here too, so for now it sits where the turtle was. Believe this Erin’s from Sunday. See how nice it is to not take other people’s things and even help them get it back?

Don’t steal from community art spaces. Be nice. Are we asking too much?

Have you ever been distracted by a rainbow while driving?

That was the premise of this unnecessary resurfacing. The real distraction was hiding behind misplaced political priorities and laws passed up in Tallahassee as a vehicle for q***r erasure. That’s the thing about rainbows, hit them with some sunlight and they always shine through.

You can take the funding out of the art, but you can’t take the art out of what you’re funding.
