Movement is language, too.

We’ve been spending time creating something a little different with Spark Creative Stories—a free bilingual educational video designed to help young learners discover the alphabet in both Spanish and English.

Alongside Sheila Cowley of Spark Creative Stories and Joey Clay Studios, we’re exploring how movement, storytelling, film, and play can come together to make learning feel alive.

For us, this is another kind of dance-making. Bodies become letters. Movement becomes a tool for discovery. And collaboration opens another way for our work to meet our community—this time, through the curiosity of its youngest members.

We can’t wait to share more from this process.

Trust the process. Even when the process is counting too fast.

Somewhere between “wait, what?” and “ohhhh, I got it,” bodies begin to understand the idea. The confusion becomes information. The mistakes open another pathway. And eventually, the thing we were searching for starts to appear.

Making dance is messy, curious, collaborative—and usually much funnier than the finished work lets on.

The “final” version? Maybe. For now.

Four artists. Four curiosities. One season of becoming.

Meet the 2026–2027 projectALCHEMY Apprentices: Willow Brightman, AJ Martin, Lexi Montgomery, and Logan Patton.

Apprentices have long moved alongside our company. This season, we’re giving that relationship a deeper structure through our new Apprenticeship Program—creating space for emerging artists to train, make, question, observe, and experience the rhythms of working within a professional contemporary dance company.

Over the season, these four artists will move alongside our company artists while continuing to discover and shape their own artistic voices.

Follow their journey throughout the season, and visit our website to meet our apprentices and the artists who make up projectALCHEMY.

Willow Brightman

With a foundation spanning contemporary, ballet, modern, jazz, West African dance, gymnastics, and aerial arts, Willow brings a playful physical curiosity to the room. After four years as a trainee with Next Generation Ballet, she joins projectALCHEMY ready to explore, create, and discover new possibilities within movement.

AJ Martin

An Orlando-born dancer, teacher, and choreographer, AJ holds a BFA in Contemporary Dance and approaches movement through embodied storytelling, physical curiosity, and collaboration. His practice draws from training across the U.S. and Europe as he continues expanding his artistic palette and relationship to contemporary dance.

Lexi Montgomery

From Colorado to Virginia, Oklahoma, and now Florida, Lexi’s journey has moved between performance, choreography, teaching, and community engagement. Her experiences with Colorado Ballet Academy, Charlottesville Ballet, Oklahoma City Ballet, and Roanoke Ballet Theatre inform a practice rooted in movement and the communities it can bring together.

Logan Patton

A recent graduate of George Jenkins High School, Logan developed her movement foundation at Highland School of Dance under Hayley Stewart. With performance experiences including The Nutcracker and Cinderella, she now steps into a new chapter of her artistic practice with pr

Orbiting bodies.

Dance begins by learning another body.
As LaMichael Leonard Jr. builds new material for MIXed: Pulse of the City, the room returns to a simple practice: paralleling. Moving in the same direction. Holding the same distance. Remaining aware of the body you orbit.

Through repetition, the dancers begin to learn one another—not just physically, but energetically. Timing gives way to listening. Form gives way to relationship. Choreography emerges from the quiet negotiations between bodies sharing space.
This is the work before the work. The slow shaping of a language that can only be spoken together.

It begins with a curiosity.

This is an early glimpse into a new work by Artistic Director Alexander Jones for MIXed: Pulse of the City. A quiet investigation into masculine and feminine energy—not as opposites, but as currents that ebb, flow, collide, and coexist within a single body.
Every new work begins this way: following a curiosity and trusting the body to reveal what words cannot.

A special thank you to Brucie Klay and Brucie Klay’s Dance Center for opening your home to us this week and giving this work space to grow.

Freedom is a practice.

Today, we celebrate the freedom to gather, to create, and to move together.

We believe dance is one way we care for our communities—by making space for curiosity, dialogue, joy, and belonging. Every rehearsal, every class, and every shared experience is an invitation to listen more deeply to ourselves, to one another, and to the places we call home.

Wherever today finds you, we hope you find a moment to breathe, to move, and to be present with the people around you.

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at projectALCHEMY.

To move freely is no small thing.

Today, we’re holding gratitude for the bodies, stories, and communities that came before us—those who made space for joy, expression, creativity, and gathering even when the world made that difficult.

As a Black-owned dance company, we carry that legacy with us. In the studio. On the stage. In the ways we care for one another and create community through movement.

Today is for celebration. For reflection. For music, laughter, family, and the simple act of moving together.

Happy Juneteenth.
