Interesting opportunity from Sam, a Librarian with the St. Petersburg Library System:

Our summer reading theme for this year is "Unearth A Story." Taking inspiration for the theme, the St. Petersburg Library System is hosting a series of programs with the goal of creating a community zine. Community members will create their own page, incorporating their personal story or neighborhood history, that will be added to a final zine. Copies of the zine will be distributed at the Adult End of Summer party on August 2. This program will be offered seven times across the city, to gather diverse perspectives from our whole community.

We'll be hosting a program at the Mirror Lake Community Library on Wednesday, June 10 from 6 - 8 p.m. You can learn more and register here: https://splibraries.libcal.com/event/16148970

From Officer Jonathan Schweiger, Community Service Officer, District II:

There was a coyote sighting in Crescent Lake Park on 06/02/26. It has been residing in the park for some time. Fish and Wildlife was notified in the past by Park maintenance personnel, and a sign was posted. I spoke with Park Services and they are aware and monitoring it.

Please encourage residents to be aware that coyotes are out in the night time and will be in the neighborhood. Please do not leave pet food out, attempt to feed it, and place all trash in a proper bin. If there is concern over safety the police non-emergency number can be contacted and officers will address the situation and make proper notifications.

Crescent Lake Tennis Courts Replacement

The City of St. Petersburg has recently authorized a contractor to renovate two existing tennis courts within Crescent Lake Park. The scope includes the removal of existing pavement, fencing, and plant materials, followed by the construction of new concrete tennis courts.

Construction is scheduled to commence June 2026 and complete October 2026. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather and unforeseen conditions. Local access to residents should always be maintained. However, minor disruptions are inevitable, and we appreciate your patience. The contractor, Create Building Company, LLC, shall notify you seven to ten calendar days in advance of
commencement of work in your area. Our contractor has been directed to make every effort to minimize any inconvenience experienced throughout the construction phase.

The City will have full time construction inspector available to answer questions or address concerns in the field. Also, feel free to contact Mark Day, Engineering Construction Division, at 727-893-7936.

"We have portions of this neighborhood on our Fiscal Year 2026 contract scheduled to be resurfaced. I do not have scheduled dates yet, but we anticipate the annual work starting later this summer and going though the end of the year.

8th St from 11th Ave N to 15th Ave N is included with this work. If you want to see the full map of streets, we have a public viewer at www.stpete.org/pavementmap

I have our inspector driving 8th St today to see if there are any issues needing to be addressed immediately."

Much activity over here at 13th N/8th. Since last post, major excavation, storm water pipe repair, filling in and now a lot of pavement pulled up to fix the issue rightly. I’m impressed with the thoroughness and have hopes for a very smooth intersection on the other side of this.

Put it in the books (the HISTORY books)! That was the informal theme of last night’s General Meeting. Our keynote was by Derek Kilborn, head of Historic Preservation, who provided a fascinating overview and maps of Crescent Lake, housing types and the in’s and out's. We also happened to have a guest of honor, Jon Clarke, the FIRST president of CLNA. Jon and his wife Hilary were active community members in the ‘80’s and compared notes with Office Schweiger on changes in our neighborhood (all for the safer). CLNA debuted a new set of flags, including a Centennial flag and a Centennial house plaque to be available this Summer. We were also lucky enough to have Alyssa Elsner, our Neighborhood Relations specialist stop in and overview what she can do for us. Last but not least: Lisset Hanewicz, City Council Chair and District 4 Representative, joined us. Thanks to all who turned out and your great questions and support.

If you are the SLIGHTEST bit on the fence about coming to tonight's General Meeting, COME! Just took a peek at Derek Kilborn & team's Historic Preservation presentation. Wonderful! We will also introduce Alyssa Elsner from Neighborood Relations (she'll be there during the social at the beginning, too). We have Officer Jon Schweiger. We have new swag a-coming. We have the FIRST PRESIDENt of CLNA! And, yes, pizza from Flipper's. Look forward to seeing you!
