Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc. The AAAPP is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit agency serving seniors and their caregivers in Pasco and Pinellas counties in Florida since 1974.

The Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc. (AAAPP) is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit agency serving seniors and their caregivers in Pasco and Pinellas counties in Florida since 1974. Designated by the Department of Elder Affairs as the Area Agency on Aging for Planning and Service (PSA) Area 5, the agency’s focus is on funding, advocacy, services and programs for seniors in the two-county area of west central Florida. traces its origins to 1974, when the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (TBRPC) assumed authority for the first Area Agency on Aging to cover Pasco and Pinellas counties. From 1974 until 2000, the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council operated as the designated Area Agency on Aging for Planning & Service Area (PSA) 5. In the fall of 2000, the Area Agency on Aging separated from TBRPC and became a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency. Currently, the AAAPP is one of eleven Area Agencies on Aging in Florida, and there are over 600 nationwide. Each AAA is responsible for administering a network of community and in-home services for older persons within their assigned PSA. With 450,000 persons age 60 and over (2018Pop. projections) residing in Pasco and Pinellas counties, our planning and service area ranks as the fourth largest senior population in Florida. The federal Older Americans Act (OAA) provides the legislative and funding basis for this system of services. In Florida, state funds are added to enhance the service network. Both federal and state funds for aging services are distributed to the AAAPP by the Department of Elder Affairs. AAAPP policy is set by an 19 member voluntary Board of Directors. Board members represent the various communities in the two-county area. The agency is advised by an Advisory Council comprised of seniors and community representatives. The AAAPP’s Executive Director is Ann Marie Winter.

Pinellas County Mosquito Control will begin aerial treatments for areas of St. Pete and Clearwater to reduce populations of mosquitoes capable of spreading dengue. 🚁

The helicopter will fly between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. It will have Lee County branding (as shown in the photo), fly low and spray a fine mist of Bti, a natural bacteria found in soil that targets only mosquito larvae and black flies. Bti is the active ingredient found in mosquito dunks and bits. It is EPA-tested and is not harmful to humans, pets or other pollinators.

As cases of dengue continue to increase, more areas need treatment to stop mosquitoes from spreading dengue. ❌🦟 These aerial larvae treatments are very similar to our truck larvae treatments, but the helicopters cover larger areas in a shorter amount of time and will allow the Bti to treat hard-to-reach areas that our trucks cannot access.

We are working to finalize the schedule for aerial treatments, but they may start later this week. To receive notifications of aerial larvae treatments planned in your area, you can register for Alert Pinellas at Pinellas.gov/Alert-Pinellas. 📲

Find the answer to many of your questions about aerial treatments, our other dengue-related mosquito control efforts and what you can do to protect yourself at Pinellas.gov/dengue-fever-what-you-need-to-know/.
