The 7th Annual Waterman Fly Fishing Tournament, a two-day fly only redfish tournament, will take place Friday Feb 26th & Saturday Feb 27th, 2027. The Awards Dinner will be held at the Bradenton Yacht Club on the evening of Saturday February 27th featuring Special Guest: Captain Steve Huff

The Waterman Fly Fishing Tournament is Tampa Bay Waterkeeper’s signature fundraising event, supporting our efforts to protect, improve & preserve the Tampa Bay watershed.

Here are the results from our 10/5/2026 routine enterococci survey inside Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Waterkeeper routinely tests and reports the bacteria levels of your favorite waterways. The presence of enteric bacteria can be an indication of f***l pollution, which may come from stormwater runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage.

Water Quality Categories:
Good = 0-35 enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
Moderate = 36-70 enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
Poor = 71 or greater enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water

Thank you to everyone who made the 4th annual Tampa Bay Debris Derby a success. Tampa Bay is 12,752 pounds of trash cleaner today because of your support!

Last Saturday, 142 volunteers spread over 42 teams collected over 12,750 pounds of trash—that’s over 5,000 pounds more than last year! The Heavyweight Champions, team “No Bag Limit”, collected 1,400+ pounds alone. The strangest item award went to team “If you litter, we can’t be friends” for bringing in a bucket of strange figurines from the Hillsborough River. We want extend special thanks to our co-hosts and sponsors whose contributions made the event possible!

Here are the results from our 9/21/2026 routine enterococci survey inside Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Waterkeeper routinely tests and reports the bacteria levels of your favorite waterways. The presence of enteric bacteria can be an indication of f***l pollution, which may come from stormwater runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage.

It was recorded that precipitation occurred at least 24 hours before testing.

Water Quality Categories:
Good = 0-35 enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
Moderate = 36-70 enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
Poor = 71 or greater enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water

The fight to protect Tampa Bay doesn’t stop 💪

We believe in unwavering advocacy for Tampa Bay, the state’s largest open water estuary. This past Friday we had the pleasure of taking out FL Senate Majority Leader Jim Boyd on a tour of the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve and surrounding waters.

It’s hard to imagine such a beautiful and ecologically important area being ruined by a cruise port. Thanks to SB 302, and the amendment filled by Sen Boyd restricting large scale dredging in the area, we walked away from the last legislative session with a significant win for Tampa Bay.

We are appreciative of Senator Boyd’s efforts to protect this unique part of our estuary and look forward to working with him and the entire delegation to continue to strengthen protections for this special part of Tampa Bay! 💪

The Tampa Bay Debris Derby is back September 26 at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin. 🙌 Gather your friends🤝, convince your neighbor to lend you his boat*🛥, and sign-up to participate in the Derby today✍! Every bag of trash or large item you bring in gives you the chance to win stellar prizes. Last year, over $10,000 of prizes were donated by our amazing sponsors. We also have awards for the most trash brought in by weight and the strangest item. 🏆You won't want to miss this opportunity to help clean up your favorite fish's home while having fun (and maybe taking home a prize or two!).

Register by Sept 18 (one week from now!) so we can get accurate counts for shirts and food, which we're providing as a thank you for participating.

Besides a t-shirt and lunch, by participating in this annual trash tournament, you also have the chance to win amazing prizes. Every bag of trash or large item weighed in gets you a raffle ticket that you can use to try to win something cool. Last year, over $10,000 of prizes were given away!
