Update on Pending Litigation Involving the Landmark St. Petersburg YMCA Building
A new procedural order has been entered by the Second District Court of Appeal in one of the pending appeals involving the historic YMCA building at 116 5th Street South in downtown St. Petersburg.
In the VPC appeal, Case No. 2D2025-2581, the court granted Thomas J. Nestor’s motion to strike the prior initial brief. The order states that the prior initial brief is stricken and that the amended initial brief is accepted as filed.
This is not a final ruling on the merits. It is, however, a positive procedural development in the ongoing appellate process.
Thomas J. Nestor stated: “The fight for the Landmark YMCA is still alive. My hope remains that this one-of-a-kind 1926 Mediterranean Revival building can be restored, preserved, and returned to public-facing community use through the Music Mansion vision.”
The Landmark YMCA remains an important part of St. Petersburg’s history, and we will continue sharing factual, document-based updates for those following its future.
