Business and Professional Women / St. Petersburg-Pinellas

Business and Professional Women / St. Petersburg-Pinellas Our network includes members of diverse ages, races, occupations and politics. and was founded in 1966. BPW members also support their beliefs financially.

Founded as a non-partisan, grassroots organization in 1919, BPW was the first to focus on working women, & has been a leader in activism, policy influence and advocacy. Our local chapter is a member of the Florida Federation of Business an Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. One of the first women’s organizations to endorse the Equal Rights Amendment in 1937, BPW has been a successful leader in promo

ting and supporting legislation affecting working women ever since. In addition, BPW educates its members on policy issues and provides them the tools to become effectively involved in policy development in their own workplaces and in grassroots efforts at the local, state and federal levels. BPW/Florida’s Political Action Committee (PAC) provides contributions and endorsements to women and pro-women candidates for state office who support the BPW legislative agenda. Five issues are at the core of BPW/FL’s legislative platform: Equality for All, Safe Workplaces, Economic Equity, Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency, the Environment and Health Care. A number of special events are held throughout the year to raise funds for scholarships, local charitable organizations and other causes relevant to working women. We are committed to coalition-building with other like-minded organizations in the community, including the major educational institutions, the League of Women Voters, Girls, Incorporated of Pinellas, The PACE Center for Girls, YWCA Tampa Bay, and more. BPW’s mission is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. For more information, visit our website at www.bpwstpetepinellas.org

Our May luncheon celebrated our annual transition of leadership as we installed the new officers for our 2024-2025 Executive Committee. Member awards were also presented. Many thanks to all the special guests and members in attendance.
As a reminder, due to the dates of our BPW State Conference in early June, our June luncheon will be on June 13th (instead of our traditional first Thursday of the month).

Ten years ago, a Pinellas Education Foundation report shined a light on the gender achievement gap in reading. Working for solutions, the nonprofit partnered with Pinellas County Schools on Closing the Gap, a program that uses teaching strategies and
