We proudly celebrate our 2026 scholarship recipients:
1st Place-Wade Richards, vibraphone
2nd Place-Isabel Sanchez, vocalist
3rd Place-Zane Newell, saxophone
4th Place-Lennon Young, guitar
5th Place-Adam “Alyx” McGee, bass

Each student performed before an audience and a panel of distinguished judges while competing for scholarship support to further their musical education journey!

Under the leadership of the Director of Jazz Education, Dwayne White, organization’s jazz education initiative continues to thrive in local schools, encouraging and mentoring the next generation of jazz artists.

We congratulate these remarkable young musicians and wish them continued success as they pursue their educational and artistic goals 🎶👏

This Saturday we’re hosting the Al Downing Jazz Education Scholarship Competition! Come support these young musicians in their journey. The event is FREE and open to public at 939 Beach Dr. NE in the Westminister Palms Community Center.

🎶This year’s finalists are Lennon Young, Zane Newell, Isabel Sanchez, Wade Richards, and Alyx McGee! Our rhythm section has Patrick Bettison on keyboard, John Jenkins on drums, and Bob Strickland on bass.

Join us in celebrating and supporting an extraordinary group of young musicians as they pursue their passion for jazz at the university level.

The Al Downing Jazz Education Scholarship Competition will take place on Saturday, May 23, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Westminster Palms Auditorium, 939 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg. This inspiring event is open to the public, and all are warmly invited to attend.
