Two weeks ago, the Mt. Zion Human Services team had the privilege of attending the Nonprofit Leadership Center’s Annual Conference, where we joined nonprofit leaders from across our region to learn, collaborate, and strengthen our impact.

We believe that investing in development allows us to better serve our community. We value opportunities to network, build meaningful partnerships, and discover innovative strategies that help us deliver the highest quality programs and services.

Today, we honor Juneteenth—a day of remembrance, resilience, and hope.

On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing that enslaved African Americans in Texas were free under the Emancipation Proclamation. Although President Lincoln had issued the proclamation more than two years earlier, many enslaved people in Confederate-controlled areas remained in bo***ge.

Chattel slavery wasn’t legally abolished until the 13th Amendment was ratified in December of 1865. Due to the 13th Amendment’s exception clause, slavery and involuntary servitude remain legal as a punishment for crime.

Today, we remember.
Today, we celebrate.
Today, we recommit ourselves to justice until we are all free. ✊🏾

This outreach is made possible through the incredible partnership and support of . We are grateful for their continued commitment to helping us fight food insecurity in our community.

Mt. Zion Human Services, Inc. is proud to participate in the 2026 POWER UP Health & Wellness Expo hosted by Mt. Zion Human Services, Inc.!

Join us on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at The Deuces Corner for a day focused on total wellness, empowerment, and community connection.

MZHS will be on-site sharing information about our HIV Prevention & Awareness Initiative supported through funding from the Susan Terry Foundation. We are committed to expanding access to education, prevention resources, support services, and community-centered health advocacy.

This exciting community event will also feature:
Health screenings
Fitness classes & demonstrations
Youth activities
Vendors & food trucks
Interactive wellness sessions
Giveaways & raffle prizes

At MZHS, we believe wellness includes physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual health — and we are honored to stand with organizations working to build healthier communities for everyone.

The St. Petersburg Police Department, alongside Chief Anthony Holloway and Mayor Ken Welch, presented approximately $169,785 in asset forfeiture funds to 43 local community programs working to make a difference across our city.

Mt. Zion Human Services is proud to be among the organizations selected to receive this support!

These funds are being reinvested to improve neighborhood safety, prevent crime and drug abuse, and support positive programs for children, youth, and families in our community. Thank you to the St. Petersburg Police Department, Mayor Welch, and the City of St. Petersburg for investing in programs that strengthen our community.
