October is .

Nationally, about 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.

While you may know Daystar for our healthy food pantry, nutritional and financial wellness programs, and emergency assistance, these services also play an important role for people experiencing domestic violence.

Food and financial insecurity often escalate tensions at home. And especially when children are involved, these hardships can make it nearly impossible for victims to leave dangerous situations and secure safe, reliable housing.

Strong, thriving communities protect everyone. Your generous support of Daystar creates countless positive ripple effects, making St. Petersburg a safer place for all of us to call home. You can help by making a donation today. Use the link in the comments.

It’s still , and today is the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

According to the United Nations, over 13% of food produced is lost between harvest and retail, while another 19% is wasted in households, retail, and food service. At the same time, about 735 million people go hungry around the world.

There’s a lot we can do to waste less and make the food we have go further.

Daystar Life’s nutrition classes teach creative ways to use all your produce, along with healthy, affordable recipes for people experiencing food insecurity.

St. Petersburg neighbors can also pick up fresh produce from our garden and food pantry once a month and join us for cooking classes with local nutrition experts.
