GOLIATH (Go) J. DAVIS, III, Ph.D. is a champion for scholars! He recently wrote in the Weekly Challenger: "My loyalty and duty are to my constituents, the most important of which are Black students, specifically, and all students in general, enrolled in Pinellas District Schools." He goes on to say effectively that no student should suffer from ineffective teaching. These words inspire us!

Like "Go", we work alongside Pinellas County Schools to enhance the academic outcomes for a community of children we love; children we know are critical to enhancing the competitiveness and economic future of our city; children who will lead our companies and city government in the future.

So as they head back-to-school tomorrow, please be like GO! Make time to encourage a scholar. Ensure they have what they need to be successful this school year. Let them know you are proud of them!!

THANK YOU, Corey Hall and the St. Petersburg Sailing Foundation, for introducing our scholars to the fun and beauty of sailing! During the last two weeks of our program, scholars learned the vocabulary and the concepts in their classrooms. Then they had an opportunity to apply what they learned and to develop new skills in sailboats on the water!

At SPPF we know the statistics for swimmers and sailors within communities like ours nation-wide are low. That's why we expose all scholars to swimming every summer. By exposing our scholars to sailing, we hope to inspire several future sailors!! Thanks again to the St. Pete Sailing Foundation for their partnership in this endeavor.

Our HSMP scholars made the news, along with their incredible film instructor, Cranston Cumberbatch, co-owner of DreamMakerz Productions! Many thanks to Cranston and his team for creating a wonderful opportunity for our scholars to explore all aspects of film-making. They’ve been exposed to so many different careers through this partnership — from screen writing to acting to production and editing. We so appreciate you!

From Campers to Young Filmmakers: How Local Students Created an Original Sci-Fi Movie in Just 14 Production Days

HSMP scholars visited spARK Innovation Center to better understand the highs and lows of "entrepreneurship!" Three entrepreneurs took time to talk about their current business, their experiences in refining the core idea or business proposition, their pivots, etc. A number of our scholars want to "own their own business" in keeping with our community's rich history of entrepreneurship.
Their BIG takeaway: be clear about what problem you are solving, for whom, at what price.
Success is often rooted in the impact/importance of the problem and the simplicity/ease of your solution! Many thanks to Edwin Deek for organizing our visit and, to each of the entrepreneurs who took time away from their day to speak with our scholars!
A special shout out to Dovev Weaver, an SPPF parent, who also invited scholars to attend the Kidpreneur Marketplace on August 8th hosted by he and his daughter, our scholar (Elise)!! We're super proud of them both!

At the end of it all, we sit back in awe of our scholars, our instructional staff, and our partners. It was an AMAZING summer!
The photos of our two end-of-summer showcases capture a very small portion of the work completed by our kids. At the bottom, I will include links to view all or a portion of the showcases and the most incredible film ever made by a group of 11-15 year olds-- STAR UNIT: OFF COURSE!!
They went to space, community. Whenever and wherever you see our scholars in the neighborhood/community (they are often sporting their camp t-shirts) please show then love, celebrate their hard work and beautiful summer accomplishments!
